Railroader Virginian AE mod teaser

Thanks to Luna, James Wolf Gaming, Greenninja, the WNCRR team and everyone involved for getting this model into railroader!
This locomotive is still very much a work in progress. The model in the video will be updated and changed prior to release. There is no timeline for the release of the mod.
We're very excited to see this behemoth brought into railroader and it will make a great addition to the game.

It's a shame none of these made it into preservation. What have been wonderful to see something that was actively working some of the heaviest gradients in the states. For those curious red marble was not the exception. It, was fairly common in that area. For those curious on the other side of andrews was the Saluda gradient. It was the steepest gradient in active use for a time. Her three other grades relatively close by that are still above three percent, including one that is still a four.

Hope progress on this is going well. The now-released H6 is great, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind another articulated loco to use~

It’s a long process of fixing errors and optimizing the model we were handed. It’ll be done when it gets done. Hopefully we won’t have similar issues as the H6.

@@strykerplays848 I only run to Robinson, at T5 it is like 1,800 tons of coal max a day. My K-35's handle that pretty happily. So I don't know. #BIGERMIKADO

Mods are always an option if you’d like more coal loads. With mods, the WNCRR server is handling something like 70-100 coal empties every day.

personally id be using it for my bryson-whittier runs. cause with the amount of map mods i got im pulling like 5600t some days then again thats mainly only when i have expantions happening but still

Thanks! The model was made by Lunar Locomotive works and imported to railroader by the WNCRR mod team. It’s got a long way to go but we’re glad people are enjoying it.

Honestly would be better than using 2 Santa Fe's like I have to on my modded Railroader save (I haven't even unlocked the Alarka Branch yet 0_0)

@user-lq2yh3vv3v The 2% marble mod and the tunnel mod (if you're using track mods) help pretty significantly. But having mid train and end of train DPUs make the climb a heck of a lot easier. You just need to release the independent to get them to start moving. They'll stay on speed restrictions and even stop as a whole but to get moving from a stop, you'll need to release the independent on one unit for all units to release.

idk if this can be answered already, but at how much tractive effort are we lookin at here? cuz damn i can only guess its gonna be a lot more than the current strongest engine we got, lol

The AEs had two ratings for tractive effort. Compound was somewhere between 135,000 and 147,000ish pounds of tractive effort. When running as a "simple" articulated, It was rated at over 170,000 pounds of tractive effort. For the time being, we are sticking with the compound configuration.

@@TheWNCRR ah nice! even with the compound one thats a lot of tractive effort, almost double then what the Santa-fe has, or close to it i guess perhaps as an idea the loc could be added twice, a sort of 'cheaper' variant with the compound, and then a more expensive variant with the second option?

As the President of the VNR we are looking for larger steam locomotives but i do not know if we need a 2-10-10-2 beast, but boy would it take the job of #111 and #112. 2-10-0 Decapods. Whats the cost of this beast in-game.?

It's being worked on slowly. We recently started working on optimizing some of the piping to bring the poly count down to a resonable level. We got it into the game and functioning (as seen in this video) but after doing some more extensive testing, we found that it caused some performance issues in multiplayer servers. The solution was to drop back and re-do some of the model.

@@TheWNCRR I'm glad to hear it's being worked on and optimized. I'd rather have a potentially more basic model that works great than one that causes issues in game. It sounds like you're also helping them with the model which I am all for. I will certainly wait patiently for it to come out but I still hope I don't have to wait too long. The railroad must expand.

it could be done, but there isn't a whole lot of point in making it work. (i don't have the model myself so am guessing) theoretically if its scripted the same way as the other engines it could work, but there isn't a point to it really, what it would do best in Railroader is be a helper up Red Marble, other than that in my personal opinion it is too big strong and powerful to be practical

In short : When it is ready. Full answer is this : The AE is one of about a dozen projects we are working on but it isn't "priority number one". It'll be done when it gets done, we don't really have a timeline.
