What is so cool and nostalgic about this footage that you can still see the old signal bridges going back to the NYC Days

Oak Harbor, OH!! I can sleep a little easier now, knowing the location of where the video started. Funny thing was I wasn't even a fan of Conrail back in the days, as I was only teased with the railroad traffic in Columbus, Ohio. I started off as a railfan of the Metro North and Amtrak in Connecticut and later the Chessie System in Lima, OH. I didn't get the benefit of seeing the major traffic along the Chicago Line until long after it was owned by NS. Through your vintage videos, I can get a good glimpse of it 30 years later. Good stuff!

Good video! I sadly was born too late to see Conrail in operation but I wish I could have. This was an interesting time period for Conrail as it was the "beginning of the end" as it transitioned into its final motive power phase. Just a few years later C40-8's, SD60M's, and SD70MACS would kick the 4 axle GE's from the priority intermodal trains. You can already see plenty of brand new SD60's though which increasingly replaced the 40-2s in the next few years.

You have any more videos on what Berea looked like back in the Conrail days? I train watch there frequently and seeing what it used to look like back then is like night and day compared to where it is now

i don’t know if you can answer this but in the first clip, NS passed over the Chicago line. well obviously NS bought part of Conrail which gave them ownership of the Chicago line. Do they still use the overhead track, or do they not need it anymore since both tracks essentially go to the same place?

Both lines in Oak Harbor are owned by NS and are very much still in use.
