Rails in Wales. 1996 at Llandudno Junction, Holyhead, Bangor and Chester

Whilst still living in Merseyside Nick and I took a trip to the above stations to capture 31s and 37s plus some of the units and eventually catch the HST to Holyhead. Included are 37420 The Scotish Hosteller. 37408 Loch Rannoch and 37429. Also passing through Llandudno Junction was 31405 Mappa Mundi Units included 101, 150, 156, 158 and our HST Recorded on Hi8 and no camera SteadyShot I feel these clips are worth a look.

I've just added today the line to Treherbert in 1998. That's being closed from this April, for almost a year, due to upgrading for the new FLIRTS/Trams

I travelled mainly behind 37's on the coast at this time. Did a lot of filming from the front coach , also at stations. Happy days Mike, must see if I can dig out my mini dvd tapes a try to find how to put them on KZbin. Great filming 👍

I still use my old Sony HDV Camera which I connect to my PC onto " Movie Maker" which I have used for at least 10 years. I'm in my late 70s so it must be easy

That brought back some great memories. I live on Merseyside and spent many happy days in the mid-late 90's travelling behind 37's and the occasional 31 along the North Wales Coast between Chester and Holyhead. Although there was a pool of 37/4's specifically assigned to these workings there were regularly others turned up and I can recall getting both 37308 and 37705 for haulage. There was an 18.22 off Holyhead I often finished the day on which only stopped at Rhyl before Chester. The noise it made exiting one tunnel, storming through Bangor station then entering the other tunnel was superb! It must have been fantastic to listen to stood on the platform! I also remember there was a small pool of 101 Met Camm DMU'S and it was nice to see one in your film. One of them was in Network South East livery and I think the 3 car green liveried set also worked in North Wales for a while?

Did you take any photos in the 90s? That's why I take so many videos now, as the rail scene is always changing, even if it's only liveries

Most photos I took in North Wales were trains either arriving before I boarded or departing after I had got off. I preferred to be on them. Incidentally I should have said 37375 and 37708 not 37308 and 37705. Of course it was even better early 80'sw hen class 40's used to whistle their way down the coast. Happy days!

I like trains today more because they are faster and you can get a lot of thrash from 175s and 221s along with 158s as well. I also really love the PEPs and the noise they make
