Can anyone give one line summary of this talk?

Here's my best shot at a one line summary (I was at the conference): Developers like to think that they choose a technology (language, framework, etc) because they've evaluated it in comparison with others and it is the best fit for the given project, but usually developers choose a technology because they feel apart of that community and want to continue using it.

The "Rails is a good choice" and "you picked the right thing" talk makes me feel quite opposite.

I understand where dhh is coming from but I think his interests (he wants his framework to be used by as many people as possible) and your interests (you want to be employable as much as possible) aren't identical. I don't think anyone should pick a technology for life. And I do think we should be flexible. I have no problems with having "roots" as dhh says, but I also want to be well versed in 1-2 more popular technologies (say python or c#) . I love rails but it's not going to be the last technology I learn.

What should I pick if I want to escape Rails? There are no Rails of Ruby jobs anymore where I live. I can't afford to move to another city where still there are some Rails jobs left. I have been without a job for a while now. Employers want 1-year experience with JavaScript frameworks. Rails have rendered me unemployable. No matter how much I like the language or the framework I need a job.

No success, I managed to get only few image vectoring jobs. I kept applying on websites like Upwork and had absolutely zero replies for Rails jobs.

I'm surprised to hear, I think moving to Laravel (php) or Node.js should be very easy for you or even .net isn't impossible . What type of frameworks do you think will make you more employable where you live (and where is that btw? ) ?

In general Rails is stronger in startups and less strong in enterprise (usually they use java or .net) , make a survey of all the jobs in your area to see what's more popular (btw choosing java or php is indeed more popular but so many more developers know it so the competition will be harder)

This talk feels extremely insecure and incredibly pessimistic. Also a little cult leader-ish with all the faith talk. But mostly I'm upset he botched pronouncing BoJack Horseman's name, twice.
