Try making Jackson terminal a Warehouse with sugar, corn, beer, meat, and cloth. You can add one more later. Put one station in each city in the middle for your express line, double track between all three cities for that line. Then add a line from Jackson terminal to each city running freight back and forth. Put maintenance in Jackson terminal set to 100% and one in the middle cities, ive ran this from London to Carlisle in mission 2 with 4 trains hitting every city. Keep freight coming on the outside platforms, upgrading to 3 stations one express 2 freight on the outside. On the other side you end up with your secondary building items in another warehouse, lumber, alcohol, clothes, dairy products, needing logs sugar fruit vegetables with a third warehouse finishing off all the end city goods. You can start with single track one train, going to and from the warehouses and then work up as needed. A lot less trains are needed in this game by far. I usually don't wirry about double trackw and trains until a city is up to 60-70k really. One train seems to handle it fine running full from warehouse amd bringing back whatever is needed in prosuced good from the city. You did this at the end. That works and it works really well with a lot less trains

With the station bonus buldings, it seems as though provided you can grab all three station slots before a competitor; you could earn a ton of money by having a dedicated passenger station, mail station, and freight station. Yep, a good rule of thumb to use as the bonus income from the Restaurant and Shopping mall outweighs everything else. The only disadvantage you get from building WH outside a city, is the loss of not being able to transfer goods automatically between two stations without first connecting the two stations in your network as point to point.

Now we can put 3 stations in each city just like before (RE1) we could put 2 stations plus a warehouse, so now everything is more flexible and better organised. As before we immediately set up two small stations in each city to prevent the opponents from occupying our city with their station, now we can put a station / warehouse for freight trains and one for express trains set up with dedicated services... I tried, your centralized rural warehouse method, located in the country. I would like to share my insights and suggestions for improvement. 1. I picked a Rural station that could serve as a common station for 2 adjacent businesses (+6 warehouse products), gave me 8 products to store or else atleast 7 goods can be stored. 2. I connected 6 platforms of the rural warehouse to 6 rural businesses (without any signals, to run 2 way) to bring in goods and remaining 2 platforms to send goods to cities. 3. Bottlenecks and congestions happened as soon as each rural business had 1+trains and 2 outgoing platforms, meant congestion by waiting trains along with need for maintenance. 4. So my thought is, can we have 2 stations for the same rural business and 2 warehouses with exact same products, so that goods transfer from 1 line to another, like we can do in cities? This way 1 station will only receive goods on dedicated lines and another only send them out to cities on dedicated lines. Then at another location 2-3 more such rural warehouses can be built to hold other manufactured goods and larger city requirements. Each warehouse station will also have a maintenance depot, to help all incoming and outgoing trains. 5. If point 4 above of having 2 stations in a rural warehouse doesn't work, then a city can serve as a warehouse with 2 stations for freight (one receiving and other sending) and 1 station for express. What do you think?
@Adekyn100Ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for sharing your insights. 1. Good choice. Grab a couple of goods by station placement, then 6 more with the warehouse. 2. Why no signals? 3. See 2. 4. The automatic transfer between stations only happens in cities. 5. I tend to do a lot of designs like this; where the central station is passenger and the two outer stations are freight.

I'm interested to see your methods for managing warehouses once you have to start moving around higher tier produced goods when your first 1-2 warehouses are full. By the end game it seems like you'd end up needing 4-5 stations with warehouses per city for full coverage and a lot of track spaghetti.

There are lots of ways to move freight and grow cities. Your method sounds promising.
@billjohansson88 Жыл бұрын
The question is, does it really take two Wearhouses in Grand Rapids to move freight to Toledo from London? Since there are only two stations in GR, only one WH is required for the six goods since we already have the ability to move passengers/mail and goods freely between two stations in Citys! This ability is confirmed in the tool tip that pops up at the bottom of the left side, which gives current feedback on things you build, e.g. you sometimes forget that you have to build the rail between two stations and connect the stations in your network.
@Adekyn100 Жыл бұрын
The video is showing the ability to bring goods into one warehouse in the city and have it delivered to another city from a different warehouse. It is not intended to showcase an ideal city station or warehouse design.
@billjohansson88 Жыл бұрын
@@Adekyn100 I understand the purpose of your video, No problems bud. I was asking mostly to see if you yourself know if the built-in help is correct or if it's a linguistic flaw in translation for the left corner pop up that gives you feedback. Because I have tried to do exactly the same basic set up as you did in the video, with the only exception that I only had 1 WH in GR between rural stations and London that you use for station no. 1. From station no. 2, which will then send goods down to Toledo e.i., so up there is an empty space! Goods are in WH but it is not sent over to station no. 2 in GR and further down to Toledo, as it is stated that in cities this ability should be possible according to the tool tip, down left side... Could be that there is a natural prioritization rate of 1,2,3 on who gets goods first with a set up like this of only using one WH in GR instead of two. Because if I use two in GR as you did in the video, then the goods immediately start flowing down to the stations towards Toledo and further along the network, so it indicates that goods are available in the presence, however not if it is misleading in the tool tip or prioritization degrees which it is about. A theoretical solution I thought could work would be to keep a WH in GR and only use one station instead of two, by using 6 tracks. Track 1,2 - Down to Toledo using auto pickup Track 3,4 - To London using auto pickup Track 5,6 - To all rural stations above GR that supply WH with goods. In a set up like this, Grand Rapid becomes a hub that has double track to all the other stations that are part of the network as peer to peer connections aka "Mainline". In addition to using 6 tracks for all goods shipping, there is the option of using 2 more tracks for Express, at a later time when needed. It is just as easy to make a branch line for express and use two bonuses by using two stations where number 2 is for express traffic only. An advanced solution like this tends to become somewhat "convoluted" in the long run, in any case when we have a larger network to manage. Could very well be that I'm using my muscle memory incorrectly when I played the first game and sometimes tend to do as I did before, without really thinking that the game is not a completely new game, however there are similarities between the two. For those who played the first edition, many people probably feel the same in my experience here lol.

Does that ’magic transfer’ of goods between warehouses only work between city connected warehouses, or does it also work at rural stations and/or any nearby warehouses in the countryside? Secondly, do the goods that you want to transfer from one WH to another have to be selected in both WHs, or is it enough that one of the warehouses has the good activated so it works like one large ’12-slot’ WH?
@billjohansson88 Жыл бұрын
In the case of rural stations, transfer only takes place via the goods that are connected to the unique WH, i.e. in WH 1 and 2 as peer to peer contact. You can't have a mega WH with twelve items without all items being plugged into both WHs here. The solution is to make a "mainline" that uses four tracks for places with high traffic "peer to peer" to later change to e.i only two tracks for the termination in the network e.i Toledo. The limit or "solution" is also an update from the previous version of the first game where it was possible to make a mainline with 4/6 tracks & mega WH over the entire map in a big way. In the game ver 2 there are bigger challenges and I see them as a positive thing for WH´s. The only time I build WH in rural stations, is for the places that have two resources e.i. like Lumber/Wool in NYC & Buffalo Corn/Wete. The limitation is the obstacle for the middle and the advantage of being able to have it in a city outweighs the flexibility that becomes natural after the year 1832 when your network is usually widespread at this time-. Yes, both goods need to be specified aka marked from and where and the reason is that they are only six goods that are housed in a WH.

I have a question, 1st thank you for your content , its very helpful! I have a case where I chained 4 stations (rural businesses) so it looks like that : Station A Corn -> Station B wheat -> station C logs -> City. I have a train that start in station A and has a stop at B and C , when eventually finish in the City station with a warehouse. Is that the right way to do it ? or should I get : from Station A pickup the corn -> station B setup a warehouse that stock corn -> station C with warehouse that stock corn and wheat -> city station with warehouse that stores corn, wheat and logs (assuming I want to sent it down the line) ? do i need a warehouse in EVERY station along the line even if there is no city in the middle ? meaning no goods to be dropped?
@billjohansson88 Жыл бұрын
If I were you, I would create three different connections with a train for each item of corn/wheat/logs to the WH in the city and ask the train to wait until it has a full load. Later, when you have better trains or an increased need for an item, you simply edit the number of trains and get minimal queuing. The game is pretty straightforward from the start, take straight paths and minimal rails to spread your way across the map. When you have a larger number of contacts and are given a steady flow of income from there. When you have a steady income, make a small optimization of your network e.i improve the bottlenecks along the network at the biggest cities or those that you want to grow big on in advance. Here you can start completing your connections with rails to 100%, instead of the short parts you do at the beginning. Because at the beginning of the first two years, two-way traffic is not fully needed to 100% along your entire network. It is enough to only ensure that there are enough rails to create a shorter queue system at this time when you usually use fewer trains per connection.

Considering you get 6 slots with no size limit for ~65K, I think that's a good deal. Although the term Warehouse is a misnomer, it's more of a transfer station, it doesn't actually store goods. There has to be a demand before they will be accepted. You can't ship vegetables to a warehouse unless you have at least one endpoint that has reached 40K for the demand. The game will give you a warning when you create the line and the train will just run back and forth empty. This also can created and issue running trains full, if the demand is less than 8, the train will only get loaded with the demand amount and then never leave the station. That was my problem on the first mission, I had a train hauling cut boards from one city to another and told it to run full, but the demand at the other city was only 6, so the train just sat there and never moved.
