Great footage, interesting to see Wigan and other areas around that time. At around the 7:13 mark, the platform shown has a sign for the station and during a recent visit has (what i think to be) an intercity bird or something on one of the poles!

Spotted a loco in this video, that's on my layout. 47436, at 19:51 at Crewe! But a great video, what a lot of variety in the locomotive holding sidings.

Really great to think back to many hours mis-spent on platform ends, thanks for taking the time to save these old vhs tapes rather than be lost forever to “media obsolescence”. Random fact - the Mk3 set working with 90005 appears to be one of the three “Birmingham Pullman” sets. These were the standard Anglo-Scottish 2xFO, RFM, 6xTSO, but formed up with Mk3b “Pullman” FOs instead of the more usual Mk3a - for covering the once-daily Birmingham Pullman. One diagram would ecs Oxley-New St, work the Up Birmingham Pullman, and then form 1S57 down Royal Scot. The other diagram did 1S47 (first EUS-GLC of the day), back to Euston, and work to Oxley on a EUS-WVH. Can’t remember which working. This kept these sets relatively captive, plus had Mk3 LHCS regularly working via Birmingham and Oxley with a Mk3 allocation other than catering, both of which were unusual for the time.

For shear variety of traction - Crewe in that era was just a mecca for rail enthusiasts. Thanks for sharing Mike

Much better calling pattern for the Euston train! - Preston, Crewe … maybe swap Watford for Milton Keynes, though!

Still can't understand why London trains don't call at Crewe as it would provide much better connections for places like Derby and Shrewsbury from the North.
