RAILWELLS 2023 - Model Railway Exhibition - 12/08/2023

12th - 13th August 2023 saw the return of RAILWELLS hosted by the Wells Railway Fraternity, at Wells Town Hall, Wells Somerset.
The show featured no less than 16 visiting layouts and dioramas in a variety of gauges and scales, as well as a good selection of trade, demo and society stands.

You filmed this very well callum. I have to say though that seeing ghostly driverless locos on otherwise finely detailed layouts is a bit odd lol

Brilliant filming as ever. You even managed to capture moving locos. On Sunday there was much chatting but little running. Having said that the standard of construction was high but not aimed at the average modeller.

i would love to go to one of these exhibitions, they seem so much fun! I did plan to go to one but it got cancelled last minute so i went to swindon locomotive museum which i enjoyed and would recommend to everyone

Have you changed your camera Callum? The filming was absolutely first class and the clarity excellent. A very enjoyable show, but I fail to understand the moans about gauges. To me this was a brilliant MODEL railway show displaying excellent skills, and the variety of gauges only enhanced what was on display. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Bob

I attended this show on Saturday morning and yet again was underwhelmed. The advertising is clearly for a Model Railway Exhibition, however, it is very obviously aimed specifically at the Scalefour/P4/EM and other specialised gauges. If that is the intent then the organisers need to be explicit about this, as I witnessed a large number of attendees, many with children, who were obviously disappointed in what they saw and left promptly. Exhibitions need to appeal to a wide range of people and most importantly the modellers of the future. Having 16 layouts on show, with little or no movement to entertain the public is not doing the hobby any favours and I suggest to the organisers that they reflect on their advertising strategies.

That's sadly just how a lot of people make their layouts, they care so much about the scenery (which is a good thing) that they forget it's a model train layout and not a diorama.

I have been complaining a lot about exhibition layouts lately with crew less locos running. It looks like to me that other people have now adopted the term Ghost Trains ! To me it proves a point that it should not happen on a Video.

So Chard junction is carrying on that old favourite of GHOST TRAINS, having the ability to move about with absolutely no train crews at all, built by cheapskates again, all that saving of crews wages.
