I am so grateful no one got hurt when the wind picked up the two water tanks and blew them across our property.

@@SustainableLiving I second that Amen. Nice blessing that's for sure. A step ahead of the drought while making wonderful memories with the family : )

I think the hardest part was digging out the trenches for the pipe.

Yes, we waited for the rains to finally come to finish the video, that sky was amazing that day.

How long did it take to complete this project? And how did you determine the size of the water tank you needed?

It took roughly 2-3 months, this was not solely on the project though. Part of the time is that I had to order the tanks, so that was a 6 week wait. If I had everything on the property I could have completed in about a two week period with all time dedicated to that project. After trenching with the tractor we still had lots of shovel work that took 3-4 days. I am going to build a cover for system, along with a drain for the clean out, so still more to do. I determined my size based on a few factors. I calculated that for my family I would want a gallon a day for each person in my family in an emergency. That would be 8 gallons a day for us. So in a 6 month period that would be 1460 gallons. Also I looked at how much annual rain I get where I live and I wanted to maximize the collection of that. However this was curbed on the cost of these tanks and how tall they were, I had a certain height limit as I did not want to dig to China to accommodate tank volume. So I settled with the two 2650 gallon tanks and connected them together. This was much cheaper than to buy a 5000 gallon system and much shorter. Hope this helps. Great question, I should have included this in the video.
