six deck SHOE... not shoot
@michaelmyersfan1001
@michaelmyersfan1001 4 жыл бұрын
That line is very outdated. Counting a six deck shoe or even an eight deck shoe is very common for card counters now, it just means they have to do maths ontop of keeping track of the running count and basic strategy. You count the cards which give you a running count, you then divide by the number of decks remaining and you have your true count. Your true count will tell you if you have the advantage or not and so you will know whether to bet small or big, which is how you win counting cards at blackjack.

@sandrobindelli5607
@sandrobindelli5607 7 жыл бұрын
That's because players are not supposed to win, or better the random player can score a lucky streak and that's good for the rep and work of the casino because it pushes the other players to play and loose more. But nobody is supposed to win big money with a constant flux of wins in a multi hour period, that's simply against the odds on which the entire betting floor is tweaked on. the casino is a rip-off per se, the house always wins, it's designed and run that way using complex statistics and math. All you see inside a casino is paid by the player's losses, wins are just a deacon.

I tend to agree with you, although Dustin Hoffman is a fine actor. But the problem I have when it comes to famous actors playing disabled characters is that for the first half hour or so, I'm going, 'oh look, there's Dustin Hoffman playing a man with autism". It's just hard for me to buy it. Not that producers would agree with me but I think it would much more effective if the character had been played by a talented actor that nobody had heard of. Much more believable.

The comparison I always use is Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape." I know he had been on some idiotic TV sitcom but for the most part, no one knew who he was. When I first saw the movie, I actually had to check and see if the actor was in fact, mentally handicapped or not. His portrayal was that realistic and amazing. There's a lot of very talented actors out there waiting for their first break and for someone to give them a chance. They all had to start somewhere but as you said, it's tough to find a producer who's willing to go out on a limb like that.

no they don't, as I wrote about above. NONE of this is typical blackjack scenario. The casino scene where people are cheering for someone having a good run winning money NEVER happesn....most people in the casino are gambling addicts or alcoholics who only care about their own money. These idealistic scenes come from dreams only. the only others in the casino are tourists, even they are too focused on their own play to care about someone elses winnings. the third group are the professional gamblers, who make a living playing, probably files tax returns, and are also too focused on their own action to care about two guys in identical suits who are Obiouvsly counting cards and will be asked to leave to casino soon.

The acting, cinematography and music in this scene are just perfection. I don't know how any of them could've been done better. Love the juxtaposition of Raymond/Charlie and the lights, buzzers, etc. of a casino. Very accurate with it being a constant hub of activity. The card counting stuff was over dramatized and they likely would've been flat bet (can't raise or lower bets beyond one single amount) or backed off (asked to not play blackjack) before the later stages of this scene and even when this movie was made, casinos knew there were people who absolutely could count a six deck shoe accurately. Also, Raymond would know there are a lot of 10's left in the deck but couldn't predict the next two cards & the dealer's downcard would be a Queen and the two of them talking out loud in front of the dealer and then Raymond getting it correct would've set off all kinds of red flags. These are minor nitpicks in an overall outstanding scene from an outstanding movie
