The song is about alcoholism and crying in order to numb yourself and not feel or forget the pain/trauma. For Gaga that pain was depression and her illness because she was really depressed while writing that song and Ariana made her happy, and for Ariana the Manchester bombing, Mac miller’s death and more. I would suggest that you watch the interview that Gaga did and described perfectly how they developed a friendship and how Ariana helped her out of depression!!!

You know Ariana is becoming a huge supporter of the LGBT community. This song was just as great as I was anticipating and expect to hear it at the gay clubs and bars for many years to come. The video was on par and what I would be expecting for this type of song. However, I still like Madonna's videos better - that's just me.
