A year ago, Sam Hunter was the first guy to nail down this tuning. As it happens, it's not "odd " at all except that it's the only time the Beatles ever used it. It's based upon one of the three most common A Tunings : A-E-A-E-A-C♯ (one step down from "Open B") Note:"Rain" is in Open B (Capo 1)= Bb F Bb F Bb D. I know the remix release states that this is the original speed, but I believe the is the half of the thruth. The bass and the drums definitely sound sped up, I reckon the guitars may have been layered at this speed, but not the rest of the instruments.

The bass is sped up, not the drums. The bass was overdubbed after the backing track was recorded.
