Most solutions in the world don't need huge money sucking mega projects. Simple solutions made after careful observations are most of the time the best solutions.

As someone with hands on experience on mega water project's. I couldn't agree more! I've seen to many of those mega projects turn into nature destroying vectors and people alienating actions! Instead of bringing people in. Separating communities, stories and traditions in favor of "big" money/corporations! On most case scenarios it's energy craving, money pits and absolutely unsustainable solutions! Based on that experience. Which, for many years I taught was the "ideal solution" the tables turned 180 degrees! Now I do understand that the tiny $100 worth of local investment can turn the landscape into a "paradise" and help fix people and communities along with their economies! In stark contrast the $100.000.000 investment in most cases scenarios will see them evicted from their lands! It's that simple! Let alone the environmental impact and simple sustainability of each case... ;-) Desalination plants are a good modern example of Human ingenuity and imported high technology! AND an absolutely stupid and unsustainable approach!! Better start by not planting water hungry crops in the middle of the desert... LOL 😂 Cheers

This method was employed far longer than the hundred years their particular family has knowledge of... There is a reason why the lands were once so much more lush, colonization really messed that up, good to see people resuming the practice.

Do they have a LIDAR scan / picture of the area before the project started? It would be interesting to see where the ancients placed these trincheras in this region.

Excellent wisdom I can use in my surrounding Las Vegas, NV 'volunteerism' along eroding and recovering trails and lands, enjoyed, and to be enjoyed, by more and more hikers, bikers, walkers and prayerful, thoughtful, meditators.
