Same as the others with having the older Rainbird and no other clear videos on the left stop. Was able to follow this video and adjusted some sprinklers that were over spraying to the left!

THANK YOU! This is the FIRST video I've watched that actually explained (and resolved) my issues with the Rainbird on a home I purchased. No one else explained why the 'usual technique' was not working on the older sprinkler heads and I spent so much time re-watching other videos thinking I missed something.

Have they made one where you don't have to dig to adjust the left?
@SmartIrrigation15 ай бұрын
The old impact heads called Rainbird Maxipaws but they have different issues and some large sports field rotors but they are 5 times the price. A new Rainbird 5000 for the first few months has a slip clutch so they won't need digging. That feature doesn't last however.

I have a system that is 17 years old. My heads are the 5000,s and 3500,s, have the nozzles been changed to gain the rain curtain technology. Can my heads be updated with newer style nozzles or do I have same technology. Can I use 5000,s and 1800,s on the same zone?
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
It's hard to say if your heads will work with the new nozzles without seeing them, but it's worth getting a sleeve of nozzles to try out! 1800s are sprays bodies so depending whether you have spray nozzles or rotary nozzles on your 1800s will determine the precipitation rate of your heads and if you can run them together with your 3500s and 5000s. Check out out website smartirrigation.com for some articles that go into more detail. And check out our patreon if you would like some extra support. Good luck! www.patreon.com/SmartIrrigation

Not just this dude but 4 out of 5 make no mention that the nozzle ( the little thing that you jam into the pop up thing ) can have a different elevation. As in low or high. Biggggg difference. And when taking the nozzle from the rain bird strip, it can have trash on the sides that will prevent it from being inserted into the shaft. Also, be very careful that your finger doesn’t get caught if the shaft snaps back. Very painful.

Here we were just showing how to adjust 5000s whose slip clutch no longer works, but in the future we plan to make a video that goes over all parts of the rotor, including nozzles. But thanks for keeping an eye out. Hopefully we'll get on that video soon!
@bgable77073 жыл бұрын
Arc or right edge? This was confusing. And then when you "decrease" the CW rotation toward the right edge, @ 2:40, you did something with the screwdriver AND rotated the rotor/head back to the left. Not clear to what or how that effected the CW Right edge stop position.
@chrisokkerse78803 жыл бұрын
. Was setting the position the head stops on the right with the tool. Turn clock wise to increase the size or the arc meaning degrees of head rotation (quarter circle would be 90degrees to 180 for example) or counter clockwise to decrease the degrees, from 180 to 90 for example. I just moved the head to speed up the adjustment time or the Video would be twice as long.
@williamb.80592 жыл бұрын
Arc is the wrong term. Makes this more confusing.
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the confusion. The left stop on these heads is fixed and that is what you adjust by turning the whole body in the ground. You can then adjust how far right the arc goes by turning the adjustment screw on the top of the head. Does that help at all?

how do i adjust the water sprout, instead of one squirt would like to make it like a sprayer...
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
The rainbird 5000 rotor nozzles are designed to only be a single spout, but they use "rain curtain technology" for even coverage as they rotate. You can turn down the screw at the front to reduce the radius, which fans out the "spout" but that won't actually increase coverage evenness. If are going for the "fan-type" of spray, you would want to switch over a spray body (like the RB 1800) with a spray nozzle (like the MPR nozzle series). But that type of switch is a whole other topic.

Could anyone recommend some adjustable pliers as shown when rotating the sprinkler in the ground? Thanks

I wish I had understood more that your video is only meant for old(?) or broken{?} Rainbird 5000s. I tried adjusting the left hard stop the way you described and it worked but it is not what I should have done. I should have done it the "correct" way - by simply twisting the inner part.
@chrisokkerse78803 жыл бұрын
Yes my video is for any Rainbird Rotors that aren't new . After about a year the slip system of just turning the turret stops working and if you force it you will strip the gears on your Rainbird rotor. So this video will become relevant to your new heads in approx.. 1 year.
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can adjust the left stop for the first few months on 5000s, but after the first summer they are designed to lock into place and the slip clutch stops slipping. I think their intention was so that the left stop wouldn't accidentally move once it was properly set, but most of us have found out that the left stop DOES eventually need readjusting, and THAT is where this method comes in handy. But in the future we will try to make that more clear in the video!

@@SmartIrrigation1 This explains why the 5004+ units I installed last year can't be adjusted with the slip clutch any more. Terrible design flaw if you ask me.

Can someone help me? I need to decrease how far left it goes. I have a boxwood and don’t want to get it wet. When I put my flat head screwdriver in I feel nothing inside the groove. Could it be it desinigrated? Or do I need to buy the rain bird tool? I called Comak and they charge 110.00 to come down. Ugh 😩
@SmartIrrigation125 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! If you are putting the tool in the correct slot in the back of the head (where there is the +/- sign, not the hole in the middle or where the water shoots out), it could be that the adjustment screw in the back is broken (it is just plastic) and the rotor would need to be replaced. Those rotors can generally be found for about $20 so if you are comfortable replacing them you can save yourself some money. If you would like us to make a video on how to replace these rotors, let us know!
@KaraStanziani-ym8pf25 күн бұрын
@ it was defected and I needed another one replaced. I did have to have them come down. Would you please do a video when you can (no hurry) on how to replace them? Would love that for next Spring. I feel that part of them gets damaged so easily. Thankyou

One of mine has no left stop. It just keeps going around. Is it broken?
@chrisokkerse78803 жыл бұрын
Some models are 360 degree always but they usually say that on top or yes it could be broken.
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
Which direction is it turning? To the left or the right? If it is turning counter clockwise, then yes your left stop is broken. If it is turning clockwise then it may be a 360 head, that your right stop is all the way open, or your right stop is damaged
@blueplasma55892 жыл бұрын
It's not slipping, do you mean ratcheting because it's moving very easily (slipping)?
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
Yes we mean slipping if it's making a ratcheting sound or feel, you are probably applying too much force and forcing the gears. This is not good for them and could lead to stripping them. The feel of a new one with the slip clutch is smooth. How old is the head?

my rain birds ALWAYS unscrew.(left stop moving no matter how tight i make it)..any tips on that.
@chrisokkerse78803 жыл бұрын
You could take the inside out of the case and move it to where you want then screw it back into the case. They are two piece units (Case and inside is turret/stem)
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
That can be a challenge sometimes. If you can, try to only turn the body to the right. This will tighten it. You need to be very careful when turning to the left otherwise it will unscrew like you said.
@AP-5142 жыл бұрын
No.. I guess I was not clear. The ratcheting action from the head turns the whole body. It actually unscrews from the base pipe
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
@@AP-514 Interesting; are you saying that the sprinkler undoes itself just by running (without your touching it)? That would be unique indeed, and something we haven't come across. Or are you saying that when you turn the head/body that it comes off the nipple? If this is the case, yes that can happen, but only when you are turning to the left, so sometimes its best to make a 360 turn to the right instead of turning it a bit backwards to the left
@AP-5142 жыл бұрын
I am actually thinking of adding some lock tight to the to the nipple where it goes into the body. (The one that keeps moving is a 180 left to right track)

This guy don't know what he is doing. You can set the left stop by turning the head.
@SmartIrrigation12 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is true on a brand new head because it has what is called in irrigation lingo "a slip clutch" but have you tried it that way on a couple-year-old one? CAUTION because the slip clutch stops working and turning the head will strip the gears.
@LuisC202 Жыл бұрын
Please show us your video then?

Hi Luis, for this video we're specifically dealing with an old head that doesn't have the slip clutch working anymore (it is only intended to last 1 year), as mentioned in 0:36 of the video. But we hope to do another video showing both a new and an old head hopefully this year. Thanks for the feedback!
