Fucking hell, I really wish I'd seen THIS Rainbow with Ritchie on absolute fire, rather than the sad, slow, old version I did last year. This was Blackmore's peak, for me. He's at the absolute top of his game here

One of great anthems of all time. Deep Purple/Rainbow always had hard driving songs layered with great vocals. Check out this song when Glenn Hughes sang backup. Out of sight.

Eric Clapton has been inducted into the R&R HOF three times now. THREE TIMES. OK, fine - he was a big influence, no doubt. But they can't then give it to Ritchie just once? Author of indisputably the most famous rock riff of all time, DP was the first real collaboration of rock and a live symphony orchestra (with a score written by their KEYBOARD player, no less), the guy that singlehandedly invented an entire genre of neo-shred guitar playing, brought real DANGER to the stage (watch the guitar smashing from the end of the Munich '77 show - he nearly kills about 12 people in the front row), the smashed camera at Cal Jam '74, blowing up his amps and then dumping 60 lb scalded Marshall Majors (200 watts from the factory, but custom modded for Mr. Blackmore beyond that) down onto the crowd, having to immediately flee the gig (in front of a legit 200,000+ people) in their waiting helicopter, apparently almost killing Rainbow keyboarding Tony Carey in a series of practical jokes on the '76 tour, co-trademarking (along with Johnny Cash) the wearing of all-black on stage, etc etc etc... Oh, and he's pushing 70 with a pretty smokin' young blonde hottie wife who can blow a pretty mean medieval flute (if you know what I mean)... WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE??? #getpurpleinthehall

Blackmore is a must for rock guitar players, if they want a chance at being any good. One of a handful of true Strat masters. You hear a note or two and you know it's him. I always go back to Ritchie for inspiration.

I know alot of musicians do it but they normally just scallop the top frets starting at about the 12th. Richie has the entire neck scalloped. What a legend

Scalloped fretboards are not very common these days, but have been around of hundreds of years (like the veena, an indian instrument with a mad crazy scalloped fretboard) Recently scalloped fretboards have been introduced to the world of electric guitars through plays such as Ritchie Blackmore, and Yngwie Malmsteen. And they both use full neck scalloped guitars.
Ritchie is LEGEND, no doubt, but this powerful and excellent vocal of Dugy White is fascinating Blackmores discovery, too!

Fantastic stuff right here, great to hear it now. I must have been under a rock or something not to know about this version of Rainbow 1995. Of course the Dio, Cozy Powell era is the meat and potatoes of the Bands legacy, but the other singers and styles are also quite enjoyable, in a different way. Long Live Rock And Roll.

I grew up in this time.....we all felt Ritchie was just reinventing the wheel....even the 'fire and smoke' reference...like Burn..like Smoke...'they burned down the gamblin house'...the thrill was already gone when we first listened to this...it was over..........but 'Perfect Strangers`was a come-back

I dig the swingy feel the drummer caught (ala Ian Paice). So often it is played straight ala metal. Ritchie is sounding in good form here and his guitar has some nice clarity to go along with the grind. Cool vid...thanks for posting!
