I think this is the earliest edition with Geoffrey Hayes, Rod Burton and Jane Tucker that has been posted online. I like how it still follows the sort of Dave Cook format with the host and Bungle in the house doing various activities. I wonder if any editions featuring Geoffrey with Charmain Dore, Julian Littman, Karl Johnson, as well as Mooney & Sunshine from Dave Cook's era, survive?

Given many of the earliest editions of the programme still exist in broadcast quality, it's safe to assume many of those episodes also still exist in the archives at Thames (though if any of them have been digitized is anyone's guess). I don't think Rainbow was ever the victim of tape wiping, unlike many other shows of the period. In fact I'm kind of happy there is a Rod Jane and Matt episode online. The 70s episodes as a whole seem to be more elusive then the 80s and 90s ones, probably because the 70s episodes rarely if ever got repeated or had home video releases (plus you had to be rich to have a video recorder back then). Tell you the truth I don't know where the uploader found this as it is obviously from a master tape. Also I'm eternally grateful the Twangers episode still exists. I wonder if they did anymore rude editions.

@@DVDandFilmBloke Oh that's good. It's not like Play School then. Or Play Away. Such a shame what happened to a lot of those tapes. I'd love to see more of the early Geoffrey stuff, or more of David Cook's episodes.

@@humphreyjohnstone6783 Once again it's an educated guess as there is no information online about Rainbow's archival situation. Some episodes could have been wiped for all we know, remember over 1000 episodes were recorded so it's not known how many are catalogued. There is more information on the archives of the BBC, not much is known on Thames. Since ITV wasn't centralised at the time, rather it was different companies broadcasting on behalf of the IBA it was really down to the different companies to handle there archives. ATV (which broadcast in the midlands and later became Central) have a very patchy archive (Rainbow's spiritual rival Pipkins has many missing episodes and a majority of the survivors aren't in broadcast quality) while Thames seem to have a better handle on there's (though they did destroy a lot of the Rediffusion library when Thames won the London weekday franchise in 1968).

Yes they do one episode 1973, with geoff and the gang, and i think sunshine and mooney were in it, the subject was animals, bungle pretends to be a horse.
@markgreet3543Ай бұрын
They had a different bungle, and zippy episode one.
