Please, a lot less talking. I love your appreciation of beautiful wood but too much talking drags the video out and people tend to lose interest.

Glad to see this species cut as I have never seen this timber before. Have seen some trees in Botanical Gardens in Queensland.

The Rainbow Eucalyptus is not a native of Australia. It is native to the Eastern islands of Indonesia. I believe that this species or another Indonesian Eucalypt was the 1st these species to be given the Eucalyptus name. Named for the cap that sits over the flower bud before inflorescence. I am an Australian, worked in Forestry Department, and am an avid history student. My mother was in North Queensland during WW2 and spoke with many USA soldiers. She said that one of them, after seeing our native Eucs. said, "Hey, you have some of our gum trees growing here". Not knowing they were native here and an exotic back in the USA.

This is great information thank you, I was always told it is one of the many Australian hardwoods so I assumed it was a native to Australia. Here in florida they grow well due to the sub tropical-tropical climate often reaching 70+ feet. A lot of the local arborist don’t want to cut them down because it’s such a hefty job and they’re often growing next to housing requiring a ton of equipment

Excellent story! AFAIK, there are no eucalypts in my part of the southern US. We do have invasive Chinese tallow trees and parasol trees that you may know by another name. Neither are lumber trees by any means.

Looks like the earth is made of white sand where you are. The straightness of the grain of that eucalyptus is really impressive but how do you slow the drying to prevent surface checking? And is eucalyptus prone to blue stain or some other fungal discoloration if it's dried too slowly?

To slow the drying you can put a screen or breathable blanket over the stack to slow the airflow down as it passes through the stickers. Here in florida the humidity is always high and it’s always hot so it’s very hard to slow the process here

I was a purchasing agent for a furniture company and bought a lot of lumber. When we were routing eucalyptus plywood, we would have to slow down the speed to the speed of cutting aluminum. It’s that hard.

Dimensional lumber is the exact opposite of rough cut lumber. Dimensional lumber is the type of wood you would normally find in a home improvement store.

How long does Eucalyptus take to dry? Wouldn't slabs as wide as possible bring you a better sale price? They could always be cut down in the future.
