Rainbow Girls - Helplessly Hoping

This was the last song of the evening by Rainbow Girls at the Green Note in Camden on 25 September 2017. They were promoting their new album, American Dream, which is their first as a vocal harmony trio. This is a cover of Crosby Stills and Nash song and can be found on their self titled album from 1969. Rainbow Girls are from left to right, Caitlin Gowdey, Erin Chapin and Vanessa May.

Over the years. I've probably heard around forty (or so. including my own) groups cover Helplessly Hoping. I've never heard a better version, including CS&N. The Rainbow Girls treat it sweetly, carefully, and with great respect. Most folks tend to use somewhat choppy phrasing (me included) to avoid the dangers of drifting off-key at the end of phrases- the Rainbow Girls ain't skeered to go there and draw the beautiful possibilities out. A wonderful group.
