I think he says anybody can play devils role when a bad choice is made. This part touched me "You see the devil don't mean to be evil, he just regrettably forgets to exceed expectation". You can see anybody doing that at some point of life.

It reminds me of someone I know who caused a lot of pain and abused members of his family. He hates himself for it and now has nothing and no one due to his own choices and actions. He was repeating learned behaviors from his own troubled upbringing. "Is the Devil so bad if he cries in his sleep?" I know he must because he is so alone now and knows it is his fault. Then, "When his kids learned to say, "Fuck you." They don't love you." He has damaged them so badly that it can never be repaired by anything. "Shake me all out if I'm wrong for you." He knows that he's unhealthy to be around and for someone to love him. "She cries 'cause she's nothing like you. Is she like you?" Reminds me of my sister because she tried to follow in his footsteps before she realized that she doesn't want to be like him. Maybe the last part, "What do you want from a devil like me? Am I, like you?" He wants someone to understand and maybe relate to what kind of suffering he endured himself, then made his own family suffer. Probably just me relating too much and interpreting the song based on my own experiences.

@@moonrider7246 I felt like someone needed to hear it on a deeper level. My family and myself also struggled with addictions because of how bad things were for all of us. This post was about my father. He introduced my older sister to heroin and she struggled and struggled to get away from it and from him. We all struggled to get away from him. He did such horrible, unspeakable things to us. Yet I still feel sorry for him even though part of me truly hates him for what he has done. I'm glad that this comment reached someone. Thank you, too.
