This show had iconic status at my school when we were all about 13 or 14.....waaay older than the target audience. We all used to do Zippy and George impressions. My mate Paul had Zippy's voice down to perfection 😀

I well remember Rainbow in my formative years during the 70s. Aged two when it started and twenty one at the end! Takes me right back to childhood memories (now in my early fifties).

The first TV programme I saw in colour (in 1976). Shocked to find Zippy was beige - thought he was grey 🤣

In black and white, everyone and everything is grey! Watching Captain Scarlet in our house on our various black and white televisions as a boy, I often wondered why everyone’s surname was a colour except for the hero - I didn’t even know that scarlet was a shade of red at the time - watching in colour is a good way of knowing about different shades of colours, rather than colours themselves! My brother and I got some pyjamas for Christmas one year - mine had Captain Scarlet characters on and my brother had Thunderbirds-themed stuff on them!

I once showed my taxi driver (I go to school in a taxi) a picture of Gobo from Fraggle Rock. He said Gobo looked like Zippy and showed me, but I still don't believe him.

The tune was co-written by Hugh Fraser, the actor who went on to play Hastings in the long-running ITV adaptations of Agatha Christie’s Poirot books.

It did end in 1992, the descriptions are blatantly incorrect. The final non-repeated episode aired in March 1992 while repeats continued until December 1992

I didn't realise until now, just how retrospectively gay this theme is! It should be blasted out at full volume during Pride! 🤣

I always had a very strong affinity with George. I wonder why that was! LOL.

so rainbow ended on New Years Eve 1991. I thought it ended in 1992 it probably was repeats of the show.
