I remember doing this dance as apart of the Etudes projects that they were doing of all the great Modern Dance choreographers while I was in college. It was an experience that I will never forget. I eventually got to do this as a solo. Being on stage by myself was very spiritual for me. It is one of the experiences that I will never forget.

I did this dance 25 years ago. I still feel sore.

Great to have this video, but check out the early film of this in B&W, maybe filmed for TV. Compare the dancing -- less careful and technical, but much riskier and gutsy. McKayle studied with Modern Dance pioneer Charles Weidman, and the way he uses weight shows that influence -- the falls --and the use of space.

I loved the video..... but they didn't name the dancers..... they are the ones that brought it to life.... and they have a tendency to be the lest credited.....

I love this. However, the song is Rocks and Gravel, not Rainbow Round My Shoulder.
