Always loved old R6 games. Graphichs don't seem as bad as other games from 2003. Game has no joke when comes to shootouts. Firing your gun in this game has a certain satisfaction to it especially shooting guys. Wish there were iron sights tho. Also team AI could have been better. Tom Clancy games always had a mature realistic feeling to them

The voice sounding the same for all male/female operatives bugged me a little too, but not being able to equip a scope and a suppressor at the same time was plain silly. I also found the fluid opening/closing of doors to be very useful, and especially so in a tactical shooter. Too bad that mechanic didn't really get copied that much if at all.

I really liked seeing the maps from Ravenshield reappear in Vegas 1 and 2. The bank was the university library in Vegas, the Villa remains the Villa, and just the other week I began to suspect that the airport actually became the junkyard in Vegas 2 based on that weird room between the hangers/warehouses with that particular piece of cover.

Honestly, you're not THAT terrible. It's actually amazing how you manage to score hits and stay alive, playing the way you do. "Short, controlled bursts" is Schlomowood bullshit, use single shots - you'll live longer and kill those pixels slightly quicker. Slow-paced tip toeing around corners doesn't work as well as it sounds, at least not in this game, because that's exactly what it expects you to be doing (my theory is that the AI reaction times in R6 and, to some extent, in GRAW 2 are modeled around such gameplay strategy). "Speed surprise and violence of action" - one of the cliche American phrases, it is also the fundament of CQB IRL (wait, is it? Well, it was something about being aggressive and shit and not stopping for anything, I don't remember...). All in all, good review.

Check out Black One Blood Brothers, it has planning and manual control. Probably the current tactical shooter that is most similar to the OG Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games.

Cool vid but planning is overrated. A strong knowledge of room clearing and CQB tactics will get you far in this game, but outside of knowing where everything is and the general layout, i typically forgo planning in favor of manually controlling my assaulters. Also dont lean, leaning dramatically reduces you accuracy and is only applicable when trying to shoot odd angles around cover, instead, slowly inch sideways and pie off a doorway. Try to get the enemies arms or legs into view and take them that way. You want to avoid a fair fight as much as possible because the enemies are basically super Delta Force Navy SEAL marksmanship champions who can go from lazily standing around to a headshot in fractions of a second.

If you think lone wolf is scary in this, try soloing Hunt in Onward VR. Even worse terror. Transparency in ironsights are deliberate, for combat shooting you leave both eyes open so you get a binocular effect where one eye can see around or "through" the gun up against your dominant eye. Although this wouldn't happen with pistols as much.

Great review. I respect the mod Raven Shield 2.0 a lot. However, I had to get rid of it, as it completely breaks at least one mission (and allegedly some others). Operation: Broken Stone has these enemies equipped with gas masks who activate a chemical agent if you don't kill them soon enough upon them spotting you. However, in Raven Shield 2.0, these enemies, for some reason, are not equipped with firearms, meaning that your teammates never shoot them. This makes completing the mission extremely difficult with the mod. In fact, it seemed so off that it didn't take me long to figure out that the mod was likely the culprit. Sure enough, upon reverting back to vanilla, the mission was fixed. The gas-mask guys were armed, and your teammates would shoot at them immediately upon seeing them. It's too bad that it wasn't finished, as something that updates the aging game would be very welcome.

Im thinking to buy this over the Swat 3 because it seems "friendlier" in terms of mission failings by casualties and the lone wolf missions sounds fun but the bots hold me back from buying it. Do they get stuck into walls often, or just behave too static?

The bots are sometimes pretty dumb. I installed and played the game yesterday and played a single map for 4 hours straight because I didn't want any of my bots to die while not controlling them myself. Some things really bugged me while playing. First, bots don't really cover teammates when they are lining up for a grenade throw. The one throwing the grenade will always go to the front of the team so if there is an enemy around the corner that approaches, he can easily kill the guy without his team even noticing. Second, they are often not checking corners. If they come out to an open area, they look in the direction they are moving. They are not always looking to the sides when leaving a building, so they are easily killed. Also, there was a pretty annoying bug that made one team always open a door and look insides before going back out (which often killed them) and follow their path even tho there was no waypoint close to that door or a path leading through it. They just always did it while getting close to that door from a specific direction so I had to reroute them to keep a distance from that door. On another instance, there was a situation where there was a single enemy with his back to my team and the team just passed him instead of killing him (also, the path was not set to Recon). After passing him, the enemy eventually turned around and killed my team from behind. Except for that, the game is great and I wish there were more games that have mission planning mechanics for bots like this game.

Ghost recon with Heroes Unleashed is the best tactical shooter I have ever played bar none.

The aim penalties in this game, even if you're slowly moving is crazy. But man the way enemies drop in one shot (so do operators). So tacticool. Finished the base game and Athena. The first map of Iron Wrath (university) is kind of creepy in a way. And really elaborate. They went so hard designing an explorable vertical level, even if they didnt need to. Though i notice you mostly use burst/automatic.. frankly accurate 1-2 semi-auto shots are enough to down opfor. Automatic firemode is quite inaccurate. It's instant death when enemies are quite far from you

i Loved all of the R6 games up to this one which I think is the best overall and the end of the true series - R6 Letdown just felt wrong and the Vegas games were such a departure in gameplay it's impossible to consider them related to R6 as they are far from tactical shooters. But if you can get a copy of SWAT 4 - the final game in that series - I would definitely check it out as it gives Raven Shield a run for it's money.

The case is still one of the best designed game cases I have ever seen even though the sleeve that fit over the case has fallen apart on me over the years and isn't anymore. I had SWAT 3 running on Windows 10 fine using the Last Resort mod and voodoo wrapper. I didn't have any issues running SWAT 4 by itself. But if you're talking about the first 2 games then I have no idea.

There is a story in a novel written by Tom Clancy and features characters you see in movies like Clear and Present Danger, John Clark and Ding Chavez. It features more believable enemies that these esoteric ones found in video games. Having Nazis and neofascists was off-putting and ridiculous especially after the Cold War.

Honestly I had no problem following the story in this but it's mostly you do a few missions an later in the game you start to connect the dots between them. From what I remember some aging old nazi living under a false ID knows his life is coming to an end an so he decides he'll go out taking out hundreds if not thousands of others in a nerve gas attack. When he dies his fortunes will be sent to neo nazi groups who will use it to kick start a new fascist movement. There is alot I'm skimming over but that's the short version more or less.

We used Shadow Play and recorded the desktop. The game's main menu, including the planning screen, is hard coded at the 640x480 resolution.
