I'm really glad I watched this. We just got a demo for one literally last night. Lady told us to only fill half way, said there is no filter with these new rainbows. So no need to ever buy a filter. Of course trying to get us to get it and we almost did.... but I'm glad now we didn't.

I bought one of the E2 black units mainly for the novelty after visiting their factory in michigan. I was thrilled to walk into a facility and see how much of it was produced within the state along with the backstocking of spare parts for even the older generations. that said, no one should be buying these units new. Frankly, people buy these that shouldnt be. The water tank is a pain and people give up on it. So you can find them essentially new for a few hundred bucks. I bought mine in like=new considion for $200 with all accessories and packaging for example. The cleaner head on the older E2 with the corner scrubbers is my personal favorite feature. Which It doesnt look like it exists on that newer unit. Again, they're interesting. Buy them used and cheap if you want to experience one. No doubt it will hold up better than your average vacuum and may even perform better. Spare parts are available and affordable. But if you're willing to spend $2k on a new vacuum, then just do yourself a favor and splurge on the sebo. Hell, buy a sebo and a Miele for the price!

I used to work for Rexair and I personally own a D3C, D4C, E2 1 speed and an E2 2 Speed Black. The best power nozzles that I have personally observed is the R1650, 42800, R4375 and the PN-12. My favorite motor/pn setup is the D4C with the R4375 or the E2 2 Speed with the PN12. The E2 1 Speed will work well too with the PN12. The only drawback with using the older D series Rainbows are they don't have exhaust filtration. All Rainbows though are unique in their own way. They're a fabulous machine. I would never purchase one brand new, all of mine have been purchased used and have been refurbished.

The only new high end vacuum I ever bought was a gold 2 speed in 2006...new in sealed box... It is now 18 years later.... Not only have I taken such good care of it... as I do with all my stuff...bu it still looks new... It isn't faded... Just cleaning the separator ever time and giving the intake seals and the bottom a quick wipe before storing goes a long way... Taking the hepa filter off and looking into the exhaust hardly any dirt/dust on the fans at all......I had to get the control board replaced in 2018... Apparently there was a recall on them I didn't know about....the rainbow guy said the new board he put in is so much better and I should have no more issues... Over the years I've come so close to upgrading but I could never justify it.... I'm so glad I've kept it all these years... It's not my daily driver but it gets used at least once a month and usually a few hours.... I want a new Kirby or a really good reconditioned used one too...

The system is designed to essentially never be turned off, unless you're cleaning the water basin. You SHOULD run it 24/7, otherwise you're not getting the full effect. It's an Air Purifier, that just so happens to have a vacuum attachment.

I'm a PROUD Rexair Rainbow DCE series model manufactured back in the md '80's. This series were really incredible! Simply incredible! BUT, Rexair took them out of production to introduce 'advanced' models. So today, sustaining such a machine is very hard, mainly because of the scarcity (and copying) of the original Rexair Rainbow spareparts and accessories. Your video has SAVED ME A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY as I was seriously thinking in buying the latest Rainbow model. Which, compared to my granny, is FAR FROM BEING A TRULY CLEANING SYSTEM as it seems. So, I'm back to square one and that's not funny, not funny AT ALL....... I DEEPLY thank you for this video. It HURTS but the truth was never easy to swallow a thing, no?

The latest Rainbow SRX power nozzle has been changed. Instead of using the foot pedel to unlock the tilt, it's now back to the previous design which was friction based.

I believe the SRX power head is just a modern version of the PN2 (or PN2e) power head with a few changes, but it does seem like the PN2 is still more superior since its brush roll is more aggressive (thanks to the stiffeners). And watching you perform the tests makes me wonder how the SRX power head would perform connected to an E2 (an E2 Black specifically cause the connection looks very similar to the PN12) since its motor is more powerful than the SRX.

I love my Rainbow. I know it isn’t the best carpet vacuum and if I had mostly carpeting I wouldn’t purchase the machine. But, I have hard floors with a few large rugs which it cleans perfectly every time. By no means is it a perfect machine and I think you have to want the rainbow to enjoy the ownership because it is time consuming compared to mostly everything else on the market. My favorite ability of rainbow is the wonderful smell after I vacuum because of the water perfumes. Nice video 👍🏼

I bought my blue e2 rainbow in November of 2010 and a few months later the e2 black came out. I think I made a wise choice on it and almost made a mistake by trading in my blue one for the srx but after seeing this video I will be keeping my e2 blue

AIrflow and suction are only part of it. For those of us with allergies, the since of the particles filtered matters most. . Obivoisly any vacuum without a filter is going to suck better than one with a filter. Similarly, one that lets a lot through will suck better than one that filters tiny particles. I'm curious what a water vac lets through, and how the vacs would compare if they all filtered at a hepa level.

Greg swapping out the brush strips to the new HD variety makes a big difference as does removing the ridges on the base plate rollers which gets the sole plate closer to the floor. Mine will suck sand off the bare floor now but not like my Lux Guardian Platinum. Sad the unit is under powered compared to the E2 Black. Prefer the other PN12 nozzle with the side drive roller.

If I’m not mistaking I’m pretty sure rainbow went back to the other power nozzle that the e2 black used. I’ve been seeing new srx models but with the previous version power head instead of the new one designed for the srx. So it again has the active edge clean and now has some cool clue accents to match the srx color scheme. I wonder if the new updated e2 black nozzle will perform better with the srx’s reduced airflow on the hard floors.

I'd like to see the airflow on miele (or other 2-ply bags)with a.bag used for 5-weeks bag. The porous bag and hepa filter get clogged...rainbow water bin does not. Operator error in not filling or keeping bin filled with proper water fill...

I have a gold 2 speed I bought new in 2006 (still have it) I also bought a Sirena a few years ago.... They work very similarly but that's where it ends for me...the sirena is so much more awkwardly shaped... it's more difficult to clean underneath when done...it definitely feels cheaper made... and I don't think the separator works nearly as well as the rainbow separator... I'm not sure why.... I noticed when using it the separator was always filthy....but the rainbow separator wasn't......Again... It think it works fine for cleaning... It's just that using it everything about it felt more difficult to use. I've used it maybe a total of 5 to 10 times and it's stored in my closet. I don't want it... I keep using my rainbow.... It was a totally unnecessary purchase for me... but I wanted to try it.

Again, the SRX (RHCS19) model to me has some nice features but lacks in power due to the smaller fan motor, fixed basin option, lack of airflow on the power nozzle, etc. and I will be keeping my E2 Black V1 as it’s more capable than the SRX. That said, Rainbow machines have lower maintenance and consumables costs than most conventional bagged vacuum cleaners and use water as the filter, which isn’t as detrimental to the environment as HEPA bagged machines. The dust inside the motor housing on old Rainbow designs is due to non-water-soluble substances as well as Consumer Reports using these substances as “household dust and dirt analogues” in vacuum testing. Otherwise the machines were capable of 97% efficiency in capturing and retaining average household dirt. I bought a Rainbow D4 SE from a woman roughly 25 years after she first purchased it and it was like brand new. She was the type to follow the manual to the letter but also a clean freak. Those on Vacuumland who own Rainbows have had no trouble keeping their machines clean as well, regardless of the model. I agree with you that the SRX isn’t nearly the machine it should be but Rexair did this before with the first E Series machines. Hopefully the engineers realize their mistakes and go back to a 6 inch twin fan stage tangential bypass motor like the D4 and E 2 type 12 before it and modify the power nozzle design to allow more airflow again. So, I see you are using a Baird device to measure airflow. You need to get an anemometer for testing as no one uses a Baird device on dust collection and HVAC systems. Vaclab and other vacuum cleaner enthusiasts on KZbin use anemometers for this reason as Baird devices were made in bias toward certain vacuum cleaner brands.

What do you mean we are not gonna keep checking on the water? When I was 6, I did it for my mom all the time. Now my kids will have to do the same for me. Jokes aside. I gotta keep researching more because of you. ;) I don't agree with everything, most flaws don't bother me, I just really need to bring the level of PM particles in my house down - by all microns possible. PM's being very small particles, they just need good kick of the brush to get lifted. The point is to never go back into the room again. Sand does not matter at much if you can't breath.If your kind can't breath, you'll sell your kidney to find the answer. Things you cannot see are the worst. Well. I am not judging. I like your video. I am just still looking for a way to have the cleanest air possible (not necessarily the carpet), as upgrade to hardwood floors gotta wait. Anyways, keep up the good job and an open mind as well. :)

It is a shame they are going this route. The same thing with the Quantum X in that you have very little amount before max so might not be able to do all your rooms before doing the refill on it. Funny they added the filter to it since the selling point of these is you do not need other filters and these run better because the filters do not get clogged up but in this case they are having to say we are not as good so need another filter.
