It was done because they were using stereoscopic 3D cameras to film the human scenes and building sets was less work than creating them in CGI

@@thetowerfantasymusic and it was released in 2009! Pretty much the only tip-off to that fact is the animation, which is fairly noticeable, but that has only been overcome very recently anyway, and only by very skilled people

Well, judging from the deleted scene depicting Earth, where the strong pray on the weak, this is a dystopian future. It is a future filled with violence, poverty, shortages, and starvation. It is not a progressive future in the slightest. So people will smoke and drink to make their lives feel just a bit more bearable. Obviously, this is not a good thing, but it is not a good future either. Hell, the technology exists to fix Jake's spine, but he doesn't have the money to pay for the procedure, hence his situation.

They removed it i think because this was the other way. Norm was nice and kind to him but it wasn’t meant to be like that. As we saw in the final cut, he wasn’t very friendly to Jake.

@@vmoonlight4962 the first time I saw the movie I watched it in a place where it was 3 hours long, then I discovered I was actually watching the extended version and not the regular one, this scene was in there and I was kinda confused about how they made him the typical silly awkward nice guy but in the rest of the movie he was disliking Jake and being so serious with him till they get to get along, I thought that with that presentation a healthy nice control of how jealous he was would fit better for him lol, I get it now hearing this wasn't in the original one, just as how at the end they didn't want to make him such a cliche even if the rest of him isn't this scene and how he's on the side of Jake really is

Yes, I'm the actor that walks past him in the first few frames and I look back to notice him as I brush past, that was direction from James Cameron, he said, you're on a planet far away, its very unusual to see someone on a wheel cheer, so just notice him as you walk past.

I think it was intenional. At this point, he was clueloss and had nothing to do. He only came because he had fuck all to do on Earth and his brother just happened to die so he could take over. Once he got his Avatar and therefore his legs back, he had something again. Then he met Neytiri, become one with the Na'vi, and so forth and through all of that found something to live for.

Well under normal circumstances it would probably travel back with them in a cyro and be put into storage I’d imagine.

@@leewolf6434 Realistically, I don't see why that would be the case. The avatar bodies would likely serve very little utility on Earth, at least for a regular citizen. We see that the transfer of consciousness requires specialized equipment which was likely made particularly for the research project on Pandora, an avatar body likely couldn't breathe in our atmosphere, using it on Earth would likely be met with many legal issues, etc. Transportation and storage would also cost a great deal of resources, which the RDA wouldn't be eager to spend. I could only see this being done in very particular circumstances.

@@johannesaskehov Well I would say that considering Norm has Avatar training and has logged (I forget the number he says) a certain amount of hours before he even arrives on Pandora the first time, not to mention the Avatars come with them from earth so that means they must have at least a testing facility on earth that is either made to match the Pandora atmosphere or they have sized up breathing masks for them to wear. We’re also told how insanely expensive it is for them to create them. I don’t believe they would simply leave them behind on Pandora. We know they already have the tanks for transportation. So they must take them back to earth with them.

@@leewolf6434 That's a good point. I had forgotten that they spoke about extensive pre-Pandora training and its implications. The only remaining question for me is if that training was performed with the real avatar bodies or some sort of simulation. Is the former confirmed at some point?

@@johannesaskehov given the way they said it I would assume it was not a simulation. It would make sense that they’d need to actually test the physical connection to the avatar before sending it 6 years into space. Imagine going all that way and finding out you avatar is broken aha But they did also so “they matured on the flight out” so I think they actually spend up the aging process whilst the avatars were in those water tanks. Which makes me think that the previous times Norm used him Avatar before coming to Pandora his Avatar was most likely not a match to his real age, possibly even a child. Like imagine jumping into an alien child version of yourself!! Mad.

You can only watch the extended cut with some extra scenes, not these scenes though, as these never appear in any version due to unfinished CGI and so on.
