Hello - yes, it is, and there is the potential for more water lost if the filter is not clean. We also have a new pre-filter called the Monjolin filter, and it has a higher efficiency and will actually filter to a finer level, so would be a better choice if you’re in an area where each drop of rain is needed. However, if you live in an area where it rains consistently, and you have a lot of downspouts feeding your cistern, then this Wisy vortex filter is the way to go. Remember, even though you lose some water, the water that you are collecting is very clean.
