I think you should also cover the importance of soil analysis and what type of soil plums prefer. My Asian plum was barely growing for several years. Soil analysis indicated that the soil pH was too low (5.8) and also low in calcium and boron. After correcting for this with ground limestone and borax solution my plum went from growing about 3 inches per year to 3 feet per year.

VVA-1 also known as Russian root stock is a relatively new dwarfing root stock and Pixy has been around for a while in the UK at least. Both these root stocks can be grown in containers.

Tanks for the video. I have 4 plum trees. Bruce, Methley, "Golden?", and Scarlet Beauty. Bruce and Methley have been in the ground since 2017, Golden and Scarlet Beauty since 2019. I have yet to eat a plum. They were all 3 year old trees when I purchased them. Methley and Scarlet Beauty have yet to flower. Bruce and Golden flower every year but 3-4 weeks apart. I cut the tops off Methley and SB when planting. Looks like that was a mistake. What do you think? It is advised by a lot of folks when planting to encourage root growth the first year. My Golden must be a euro plum. Looks like I will have to find a buddy for it. I am on the border of 9A9B

I have a peach tree that won't grow limbs on it but one on the side after the tip was cut off and so I hear that I should cut it down to knee high and that should force it to grow new limbs on it. It is about 1 inch in diameter. And about 4 feet high. But I don't know what else to do to get more branches to grow on it can you give me your thoughts

Had an apricot I purchased online with a poor branching structure. I cut it to knee high and it's developing a great structure now.

Can a person use ANY European Plum tree as a pollinator for another European Plum tree? For instance I have 2 Sweet August Sensation plums that have never produced. Their tag recommends a Candy Rosa Plum as the pollinator but I cannot find a Candy Rosa Plum anywhere, including the internet. I'm hoping to be able to purchase another variety to use as a pollinator.

Both of the the plums you mention here are Asian Plum hybrids. You will need a Santa Rosa plum as a universal pollinator, or the recommended interspecific pairing.

Do American plums like the Chickasaw Plum pollinate asian or european plums?
@RaintreeNursery
@RaintreeNursery 3 жыл бұрын
The short answer is probably yes and more likely with Asian plums. American plums (Prunus americana) tend to be early bloomers and are cross compatible with Asian plums, but flower too early for European plums. Chicksaw plum (Prunus angustifolia) is likely the same story.
