Karen Carpenter didnt need to show off with vocal acrobatic like today's singers. She is one of the rare few who was blessed with an exception and unique gift, who burned so bright and died too young.
@tomschmitz57455 жыл бұрын
she had a 4 octave range, and COULD sing "high" if she wanted to.... it was her tone, her perfect diction and enunciation, the way she told the story of every song, perfect in every way...

And an amazing drummer. Singing was actually secondary to her.

@@tomschmitz5745 Wikipedia page: Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer who, along with her elder brother Richard, was part of the duo The Carpenters. She was praised for her 3-octave contralto vocal range. Her drumming abilities were viewed positively by other musicians and critics. Her struggles with eating disorders would later raise awareness of anorexia and body dysmorphia.

When we were in the fourth grade my friend really wanted to learn the drums. This was 1987 and she was told that the drums were for the boys and that she should pick another instrument. She got the tenor sax.

If you dig really deep, there are some accounts of family friends who reveal the source or Karen's pain... they say her mother was extremely controlling, non affectionate and favored her brother over her. Karen sacrificed her childhood and life to help Richard succeed at his career just as their mother would have it... and I think she always felt it was HIS career... as crazy as that sounds. In truth she didn't want to be the front man, didn't believe she was that good and was happier playing the drums... but even that was taken from her. They say this type of disorder is an attempted to control something when a person feels out of control. It seems Karen had very little control over anything in her life besides her eating disorder. So very sad. RIP Karen, we love and miss you always. 🙏♥️

Her mom didn't give her the attention, that she gave Richard. One time when Karen was in rehab, the therapist called her family in, and asked them to tell Karen that they love her. Her mother could not say it. Yeah, that screws with your mind. So sad.
@johnfranklin52773 жыл бұрын
Dont put out HEARSAY, AS A FACT. If you didn't get this from Karen, were an immediate family member, lived with them, then its hearsay, and may, or may not be true. If her mother was so awful. Why, at 33, with all the money Karen had, was she still at her mother's home the day she died? If her mother was that bad, surely, they would have been estranged.

Unfortunately, Richard was so caught up in his addictions that he could barely take care of himself toward the late ‘70s. I feel had he been clean and sober he may have been better able to help his sister. Drugs have a way to change a persons priorities once you become addicted.
@xoxxobob615 жыл бұрын
They were both dysfunctional people so I can't real blame him for not being there for his sister. Also realize they still had their parents and it makes you wonder why they didn't intervene but it's not like eating disorders were well known back then either.

You have to consider that Karen Carpenter was a contralto and according to Wikipedia "Regarding her voice type, Carey said that she is an alto, though several critics have described her as a soprano."
