I have been experimenting with succulents for about 2 years now. I have limited space and I am also limited as to what I do. I Take care of my parents and live with them so I get told where I can plant my succulents. I would like to plant some in pots and put them in various positions but not allowed lol. Ohhh wooooowwww, is this your personal "garden" or do you do botteny and sell plants? Succulants especially cacti are my favorites. I jave a mojave yellow barrel cactus with my mom, its 30 years old , she also has a 75 year old old mans beard cactus. I cant remember so many names...i am finding a wild succulant is growing in my area( north eastern ny) and i have only scene it resently. Ms.Liz , you are a facinating creature , rockhounding and gradening and prospecting and stone cutting and im sure far more than you make videos about. Does your fella (Wally/Wal?.. Im not sure what the prefered name is ) work with plants too? You could make a world class, probably award winning rock garden by combining interests. My mother says to make sure the pots have drainage holes, break up a small red clay pot into chunks about 2 inches and cover the hole so the Arch of the piece is pointed uptwords the sky. This makes an air pocket for extra drainage. Then add a layer of 1inch-ish stones over the bottom and even over the arch. Then a layer of sand about an inch deep over that , and then standard 65/35 potting soil and sand mixture as normal for succulents . the unsealed red clay pots themselves also allow moisture to escape and is usefull for any plants that like dryer climates. In sorry my technical terms arent up to par ,its been a very long time since i have gardened at all.

Liz, would you contemplate sharing more in depth how you got all these lovelies hardened off to your climate? Your -10° C is around 14° F and I don't know of anyone who has accomplished what you are doing regarding growing succulents outdoors. I am going to try this here in North Idaho. Is snow a part of your winters? We average about the same rainfall as Canberra and our temperatures don't average as low as -10°C. I wonder if they were buried in snow for a month what would happen....they could be sheltered under the patio....I myself would love anything you could share on this topic! Did you know Idaho is the Gem State? But here you have to fight grizzly bears to get them😅🌲🌲🌲🌲🌵❄🌧🌨
@LizKreate4 жыл бұрын
Gem State??? LOL Glad that the only bear we have here is a Koala Bear. Cute and cuddly. Hope I get the chance to prospect there in the future. -10 is quite rare for us but -4 is common. Acclimatizing succulents starts from the time one brings a succulent home. The process takes a long time (4 years for me) before I got them looking the way they are. I am still in the process of documenting all these and but already working on some videos. We don't get snow here but If we do....I would probably stick to some plants that can take some snow like Sempervivum, Echeveria agavoides varieties, Some Aloe hybrids and some sedum varieties just to name a few but will tackle this on my future videos. Thanks for watching Stay safe and healthy. Cheers, Liz
@ofhismercy1094 жыл бұрын
@@LizKreate that will be awesome, Liz. I will be tuned in. All of my least favorites will be the test subjects this winter. I love experimenting with growing methods! Gonna be fun. Hi Liz! Do you believe on the strong winter about -15 F any succulents could live outside?
@LizKreate4 жыл бұрын
There's quite a few succulents that can withstand that temperature. They die down but come back in spring. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz

Liz Kreate , I admire your talent and dedication so much ! I have about 500 succs. I bought all of them to inside 🏡 🌵

@@LiveLaughSmile Oh my.....That's a lot to bring inside.

Liz Kreate Yes! I agree with you, but I don’t have a choice. Fall nights are cold and on winter, much much cold. So, I put 80% in one room and 20% are spread to home. I started this year. I will check how they will behave inside home with everything their needs. 😍

Sorry that you had succulents stolen. Happened to my ex_daughter in law, she had them growing in her garden too and had so Manny stolen. When you go to so much trouble making your garden looking so nice, it's very disturbing. Stay safe.

You too Laraine and thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
