Cus D’Amato’s always said that crossing paths with Mike Tyson was the second time that he was struck by lightning, the first time was when the 14-year-old Floyd Patterson walked into his gym. Patterson was boxing’s first ‘Peekaboo’ fighter of prominence and was the most promising prospect of the early 50’s. But Floyd’s critics believed him to be too nice for the sport and that he didn’t possess the zest for violence that is required to be a successful boxer. But the evil intentions that his punches carried were clear, and with his murderous power and blinding speed he was able to beat the odds and become the youngest man ever to win the heavyweight championship of the world.

He was called The Gentleman for a reason. He was a black man that the world could be proud of back then and was humble. Sonny Liston came along and they didn't like him because he came from a rough background and he was real. Floyd Patterson's gazelle punch would put any heavyweight in history down I'm sure! I always thought that Mos Def should play Floyd Patterson in a movie if they ever made one.

I like when people are honest and when they fight someone truly gifted they give that person recognition for it. Very respectful fighters. It takes a honest character to say to people when someone is quite good at something and it even makes you feel threatened or you can admit that the fighter is just better than you. That takes a real strength of a person to do that.

Whenever people remember Sonny Liston, they remember being called ugly and a criminal by Ali. Same with Joe Frazier getting called dumb, ugly, and a gorilla by Ali. Muhammad Ali is so popular and loved by the public, that they joined in on the attacks of his opponents.
