This reminds me of a story of Ferrea sales representative who together with another gearhead cut a BBC head in length cut in half, added 0.8"" plate between two halves and gained superior flow... only problem was covering engine bay with blankets etc so no one could see the welds etc...😉

Has anyone ever tried a Dominator modeled, inline 4 bbl., or split Dominator, mounted end - end, to address the distribution issue, and loss of booster signal, while still retaining “4bbls.”?
@benalamedaracing2765
@benalamedaracing2765 7 ай бұрын
Since we compete it is not ordinarily allowed and if you split the dominator it will surely turn some heads and straight to the complaint dept. lol

I talked to Dick Whitey. Cutting dominators in half was tried. 3 2bbl was tried on chevy straight 6 applications. We still see tri-power, 3 2bbl carbs in classic mopar and Pontiac applications. A lot of the hot rodders did stuff to Frankenstein a fad. Like you see now with rat rods. The big and matter of fact answer is a carb can't be electricity tuned like FUEL INJECTION. The guys that know carb science are quickly dying off as it's yesteryear of induction. Like Ben said, when you are competing NHRA, You show up with the same stuff that's been winning. Or per the rules. rules

The Autolite inline 4-V comes to mind. It was available in two different CFM versions. The intakes were designed to fit Ford Boss 302 canted valve engines that were raced in Mustangs prepared for SCCA competition during the 1970 season. I think the Bud Moore Mustangs running in the SCCA series won the championship in 1970 using the Autolite inline carburetors. Hey Ben, maybe your modified plenum elbow design should be called a “plenbow”. 😉

@@danielwilson6665 the Autolite inlines 4bbls are exactly what came to mind, for me. The extension of the thought was to take a split Dominator, as used in Pro-Stock in the later carburetor days, and place the body’s inline with a common throttle shaft, yielding a inline 4bbl…

I experienced the blending of exhaust ports on a Chevy 350 ci 260 hp crate engine. No other modifications to the long block was performed other than port matching to the biggest oval small block header gaskets available for the street. The exhaust ports were enimac with with casting flaws and uneven port sizes. I used a small dremel grinder with a couple of dozen harden dremel drill grinding bits. Different length and sized pieces of solid material was used for gauging as close as possible of all eight exhaust ports being the same. I changed the exhaust ports from rectangular to oval with taking a lot of material off the floor and roof of the ports. The engine produced so much low end torque that I had to be careful throttling the gas when starting out or the 33x12.5x15 inch rear tires on the 6 inch four arch springed 1978 Chey 4spd. 4x4 truck, especially with my heavy 24 foot camp trailer in tow. When I retrained to take myself off disability in 2004 with an Automotive Associates Degree of Applied Science at age 49, the Automotive Teaching Professor and Aid were old school with trying to tell the young students that to build torque you have to have small exhaust ports on the cylinder head followed by a small restrictive exhaust pipes to hold back the engine exhaust pressure within the piston combustion chamber. Once my 3 inch straight piped exhaust pipe with one and five eighths inch headers kept sqealing tires around campus when given a little bit of throttle, the Teacher and Aid ate their words with admitting that held back exhaust pressure may have helped torque output on the 1920's four cylinder flat head engines, with actually taking torque away from non flat head engines, especially after the 1950's engines. I completely understand the straight line of sight phylosophy with looking at port angles the way sewer pipes or compressed air delivery of turbo and supercharger producing more heat with turbulence caused by the friction of air bouncing off itself and restrictive corners of bends. In my mind's eye I kept thinking of the exhaust port as a full demand pressurised water line connections that has to deal with a weak overloaded water pump. Taking as much of the right angle turn out of the exhaust when it leaves the exhaust valve seat helped in low end torque with increasing the high rpm horsepower as though it had a high performance racing cam. Your using a spacer, then modifying the intake port on the big block Chevy head is understood with 100% confidence in your unique approach to around 500 cfm intake ports that propel a 3400 lbs door-slammer car to running 8.30's. What I like best about Ben Alameda Racing is there is no continuously having to repair race engines you have just built. For some reason, all the other KZbin race engine building engine machine shops are continuously rebuilding broken engines that just left their engine machine shop, especially when it's their special machine engine block and heads.

Mr Alameda I had a question on which is better to build if someone what's to build a small block ford only around 350 cubic inches. Would a 347-349 stroker be better than a 351W because of internal and external weight? Or would better rod ratio and a wider intake be better for more horsepower and for being able to withstand more power and abuse than the 302 block? And which of the 351W blocks is be better? The 9.2 deck or the 9.5 deck for the same reasons? internal and external weight? I really appreciate your videos a lot and love that you respond to your viewers. Thanks for your time.

I like the 351 because it is much stronger internally speaking and also make more power if all else is equal. The longer rods really help as well so that is an advantage big time. All 351 Windsor blocks are basically the same except the C9 castings and the Sportman blocks. The lightning blocks I prefer for street or good power street build!

The qualifying ET’s in the classes that would allow these modifications is extremely close. Going quick has always been expensive. Picking up an extra 30+ horsepower could be the difference between winning or going home early. In my opinion, the advantage provided by these modifications are worth the additional co$t. 🏁
