One thing to remember about Stevens is that he is only on generation removed from the greatest GM in the history of basketball. Auerbach trained and mentored Ainge, who then passed that on to Stevens. That's very rare in the NBA, to be so closely connected to one of the early greats and I think it does help Ainge. Auerbach was a visionary who was never afraid to make a controversial move.

What that dude touched on around the 37 minute mark is 100% warranted. Looking back, it really was crazy how much pressure JB and JT were under not just from the city of Boston but the whole basketball community as fucking 19-24 years old. I'm still just in my early 30s but when I look back at me when I was like say 23 for example.... I was practically still a fucking kid compared to where I'm at and what I am now. Yet these two dudes were expected to carry a historic franchise to championships at that same age. The pressure was there early because of how fast they overachieved (say that as a compliment, not an insult). Like yeah they get paid to do it but holy shit that don't mean it can't be mentally and emotionally stresseful/exhausting. That's really kinda crazy to think about. If I remember correctly I think JB opened up a little about having anxiety in his 2nd or 3rd season and looking back, goddamn yeah I can see why.

Rookie of the Year Tom Heinsohn had 10, with 11 rebounds. The C's won their first NBA title in April, winning Game 7 in double-OT against the St. Louis Hawks 125-123. Heinsohn led the way with 37 points & 23 rebounds. The Cous had 11 assists. They had lost Game 1 by the same score reversed, also in double OT. Hawks star Bob Petit had 37 points and 14 rebounds. Bill Russell had 18 rebounds for Celts.
