Tatiana and Roman are former champions but they're still parents to their son like most parents are to their own children. The exception is they've passed along to Ilia that innate talent and desire to be in the sport. Lucky for us and for the sport itself that Ilia has within him that natural drive to skating which he enjoys and wants to excel through his zeal and hard work. Thank you to Ted for this nice interview.

They seem like really sweet people, and good parents! His father always looks so happy and proud of him when you see them together when Ilya comes off the ice. He has a great support team that has his back.

It is interesting that his parents did not encourage him to skate. Six yrs old is old for Ilia to begin. But when something is meant to be, then it just unfolds. His parents are just lovely and wanted a different easier life for their son. At the same time, the child had a passion and talent which they came to recognize and then worked to help him Great interview!

Yes, I love that fact that he started skating and getting into competition because he loved it and he wanted to. That his parents didn't discourage him but they didn't push him into it or even heavily encourage it. I think you can see that passion for it that comes from inside of him in his performances. The joy and expressiveness that isn't always there in elite athletes. Such a healthier way for parents of athletes and the athletes themselves to be. And I think helps the athletes remain positive and not feel so much pressure that their worth comes from only from being the best all the time.

I gotta say it helped Ilia that his parents were already good skaters and that they coached him, because then there wasn’t the financial pressure of getting something out of an investment, nor parents projecting themselves on their kid.

@ это как сказала мама Малинина -в Америке 🇺🇸 это не удивление ,кроме того -мне совершенно понятно -имея сложную фамилию для произношения в Америке самой ,фамилия отца Малинина -Американцам не произнести с первой попытки 🤦‍♂️-это будет коверкание и спотыкание

Илия́ - библейский пророк в Израильском царстве в IX веке до н. э. В христианстве является самым почитаемым ветхозаветным святым. Очень распространенное имя в России у православных христиан. Можно пошутить ,что имя дали в честь отца основателя революции Ленина (Владимир Ильич Ульянов). Шутка так же уместна как и про Кулика🤦‍♀️😂
