@ladyandtheowlman Sweet life. Since 1981, I'm a leader in Regenerative not found on internet. Since '88, off/on I live as ecovillager in Bali. You don't have to give up on olive trees or other trees. I can consult on the things to make it work better. It won't be perfect, but you can have trees as long as you don't have a herd of hungry elephants. I'm not on instagram, so give me a professional way of reaching you. Consulting is my livelihood. #asifLifeonEarthMatters

@@homestead_freak Yikes, that sounds really tough, Homestead_Freak! I have sympathy - I set my heart on doing forestry for the rest of my life at 14yrs old - good school results, a forestry degree and 4 glorious years in equatorial Africa (arid area forestry) later I got my ideal job on the West coast of Scotland ... great in early spring, complete torture in summer! I hate midges! I couldn't cope. I managed 20 months. Have you bug-proofed your living quarters with bug screens on windows and doors, bug traps on the floor, solar fed UV traps, yellow sticky traps ...anything and everything to give you a sanctuary? A serious question from a fellow off gridder - If Sage had fallen while RUNNING with that jagged open edge saw and cut an artery, how long would it take you to get to an emergency room? I see you are growing more and more accustomed to taking risks, wobbly ladders, leaping on and off your new concrete roof, it's all fine until the day it isn't, then your entire world can change. I would encourage you to move always with the awareness of how many minutes exactly it is to a great ER, one day you might need it.

A Good Finish tip for the small door on your New Out-House, close to door and go inside, all the way around the door on the Framing, you need 1/4 round Molding, or some Small square stock to go all the way around the 3 sides of the door! This way it will be sealed from BUGS when Closed, and weather, and it won't try to close too far!
@ladyandtheowlman3 ай бұрын
That's a great idea! We really don't want any bugs going into the bin area, or snakes for that matter! There is definitely a little gap there at the moment. Thanks for the advice ❤️

Usually when you plan to build a concrete roof, which is really heavy, you build four concrete posts at the corner to support the weight, those each have rebar to prevent fracturing, those ceramic blocks are not structural, I would encourage you to research that yourself, they are meant ONLY to fill in between concrete pillars not to support the weight. To think then to add on top of it clay based soil and the water retenion weight, you will have cracks through that block in the first year and if an earthquake did come, I cant imagine why you think thats a shelter, it will literally turn into the coffin you, hopefully not prophetically, thought it was.
@ladyandtheowlman3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your advice, it sounds like you know a lot more about building than us haha! When you say it like that, with all the soil weight, it does sound a bit unstable! We'll keep and eye on the cracks and add some reinforcements like you mention (columns with steel) if that time comes! ❤️
@aboutface-de1qo3 ай бұрын
@@ladyandtheowlman As a simple stop gap, why not mix a bit of cement, and stuff it in all the holes of the ceramic that are currently acting like pillars on the sides with the windows, at least if you fill those solid, the weight of the entire roof won't be pushing down on just two ceramic blocks, because when those blocks crack, with that weight, they are just going to shatter and the whole roof could come down, with cement in the center, absent an earthquake, you will at least have time to remedy it with a proper concrete column. You guys are doing great, just maybe share plans in the future and get advice ahead of time. jaja, entonces.. vamanos

Is that somewhere in Valencia? You two are just actually living life how it should be. You two had the initiative AND the determination to know that you wanted to live like that and it is just insanely enviable. When I think about people struggling in the cities, commuting, putting up in dreadful jobs, paying bills like crazy and living paycheck after paycheck, while you had the IQ to know what is coming, and what is coming is bloody hell for the rest of the world, AI leaving millions of people without a job,: so you are becoming self-sufficient, you will provide your own energy, water, food, away from the taxman and the bloody letters from the bank. Not that I have those problems but definitively I wish I could live like that. You didn't have much money, yet you said, we have ourselves, we are young energetic and intelligent. Definitively we can make it. And you did. Inspirational 100%. Both of you look like selected from a model magazine. The guy is lucky, what a wife!

thats awesome for sharing i can't believe your country has not up dated its screws to better ones. Here in America we don't use them no more why? like your husband said you massacred that screw.. yes cross bit or Philips bit screws are junk. What we use here are called Torx screws or stars crews takes a star bit or a Torx bits. The grip is better when screwing them in or taking them out. thicker shafts then Philips screws and we build decks and walls and homes with them awesome screw. and you can get them in every length. as for you garden it looks awesome and please not so much on the what looks good what looks bad.. as long as it has trellis for plants.. it is all good. Here for trellis i use woven wire and posts at either end in ground. 4 to 8 inches above ground and thats were bean peas start climbing.. works awesome. Wish i was coming that way i would bring a couple boxes of Screws to you.. your husband would love them. take care happy birthday Sage and many many many more you have great parents awesome!! life is an adventure awesome and you living the best. Hi guys! We still watching your video, but probably you need to make sides o the roof and then make hydroisolation (actually we preffer make hydrofobic concrete instead). And i think that 15cm is not enought for plunts because of dry soil. Upd: if you have ice in the wintertime it could pull out roof sides =(

@@ladyandtheowlman i think that it is not so important where you are, but in case that you have solid ice slab, it will pull sides with power more than 500 tonn per m2. If there is one thing I've learnt over the years of building compost toilets is the ULTIMATE height from the top of the toilet seat to the floor is 15 inches. Trust me after building many that's the most "Comfortable" and efficient height 😊

Just found you here on youtube, and wanted to tell you how heart warming I found to watch it! You should be so proud that you took the step to create your own homestead! Beautyfull famely, and love seeing your inne child breake out through the the thick walls of adulthood,,,,Did I just create a new word ? 😂😂 Anyway, I am seriusly thinking about moving from Sweden to Croatien and join in on a Homestead building there with likeminded people i have never met 😂 I know it sounds crazy, but if you dont take the step and try it, it will become a "what if" thought banging my brain for the rest of my life! I was born in Iceland and moved to Sweden when i was about 25. Now i am 50 years young, but it is time to move on, and leave this untollerable delution of "normal life in a free country" You wont be free untill you are in total control of your live, and when you are self sufficient! You can never be that living like "normal" livestyle, depending on electrisety, food, water and all the other things in live paying the price the big geedy companies desites, becouse you dont have a choise, the paying tripple ore more taxes on every thing you need to survive just so some .......pip........ people can live easie in the upperclass. But then we also got all the things we are not allowed to do in our homes in the towns or the cities, and that irritates me just as much. You buy a property in the town, but it is never realy your. You buy a land in the middle of nowhere,, now that is another story 🥰 Looking forward to follow you guys! Stay strong, have fun and stay of grid❤❤❤❤❤❤

Totally spellbound by everything. Questions: how do you get things that you can't produce like oil, sugar, shoes, car related stuff, things for the home etc, sooner or later you are going to have to do business to get cash. Internet might help.
