I was born and raised in Namibia, our Torts were always outside in a natural area and habitat. It has been a huge adjustment to raise in captivity here and my biggest concern is always enough humidity. This has been a great and very informative video, thank you! It would be helpful to list the equipment used for both indoor and outdoor habitats.

I love all turtles. The larger species (like this guy) have such beefy legs even when they're tiny. so cute. we have boxies 🐢🐢🐢

Definitely making me rethink my Box Turtle care. I want to move them to the basement. There is more room but I am worried about the mice I get. I also live in CT

And i have been worried north Alabama would be too cold most of the time. Good vid

Thanks Travis. As long as you have the space and means to provide for them you should be fine in Alabama

@@ernpyr space is no issue with 50 acres to build a pen for summer. But if i go large tort . I have been trying to figure out size and heating area needed in the barn for winter. Water care, heat retention, insulating level. Also trying to get a cost of feeding per yr once it hits about 100lbs. I can grow a lot of it. But maximum health is my goal.

Topanga is smoooooth, fig is a little lumpy considering he was raised outdoors in Arizona. Perhaps it's too dry there?? Awesome tortoises and having two of those you are gunna need a lot of space in the future! and maybe only keep exclusively them? Aldabras are the most beautiful of the giant tortoise species I think. Cheers Kevin!

I think you're right, there was a study that showed humidity might stop pyramiding, but in arizona, the tortoise will get a little bit of pyramiding, but nothing serious, pyramiding isn't always bad, they naturally go through it in the wild, so it's fine

Are your Aldabran tortoises the same sex ?. I used to have 2 red/yellow footed tortoises, but 1 died because it felt on its back trying to get on the other one. When we discovered it, it was already too late. They're a lil more than 2 yrs old. The one who died was a male and he used to bother the other one quite a lot lately before the 'accident' happened. I read on google that it can be hard to keep different sex tortoises in the same enclosure.

how to get to page that helps to make sure that your aldabras are on track, as mentioned in the video? I can't find it.

@@ernpyr thank you, but it's only for record keeping as far as I can tell. I don't see anything that would tell me if my tortoise grow at a proper rate. 😑

You should separate them first as if one tortoise had a virus or parasite in them, it would be pasted on to the other. I recommend to connect their poop and use a microscope.
