A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON SCARLETT
Scarlett is an artist, entrepreneur and a passionate gardener. Scarlett is also a raw vegan foodist who loves gourmet raw vegan cooking.
For many years now she has been growing almost all of her food all year round. Scarlett's motto is grow what you eat and eat what you grow. you can tell if the ducks are male or female if you look at the beaks. if the beaks are orange than they are male, if the beaks are pink than they are female

I found a duckling in the metro area of Saint Petersburg, Fl. Oh my! What a handful these cuties can be! My duckling started sitting too. I take it (I'm not sure if its a girl or a boy), foraging and swimming 2-3 times a day. As well as letting it outside its pen to walk around my house, (and poop - ew). I can't wait for it to be bug enough that it can not escape the fence all around my house. It's so good at eating the ants. I don't use pesticides, and I could use some daily help on the pest control. Your ducklings are so cute!!!

Hi Empty Nester, They are adorable and they grow so fast! I can hardly keep up with the camera. LOL I'll post a few more 'we got ducks' full length videos as the grow. thanks for having rescued them! they're so adorable. we are about to move to a house with a yard and i already rescued a brahma rooster. he was supposed to be dinner for a coworker, so i asked him to give him to me which he did. now we will have to buy or rescue some hens for him, but i also think about getting a few ducks and geese if possible. not easy to find farm videos without scenes of how animals get killed :-( too sad ... i wish there were more vegan farmers who had animals as pets and made videos ... :-)

Love this video! My Black East Indies hatched two days ago...I am in love already! Getting them acclimated to our home of dog/cat/rabbit and fish...not to mention a flurry of wild birds and a racoon that likes to pilfer the birdfeeder! (It's wired shut now! lol) I am keeping these ducks as our pets, not for meat or show. Wondering if you have ever made your own duck food and how it went if you did. Thank you. make sure it gets plenty of time outdoors , and let them swim a bit in water, for ducklings give it 4-5 weeks to get in water

Wonderful video, im thinking of adopting a few ducklings soon ^-^ what do you feed them as a replacement of natural pond greens in the wild? Lettuce, spinach or grass or :0?

When they are small they get duck start as they grow they get grain or scratch but only in the coop and at night. during the day my animals are free range so they eat lots of bugs and bits of greens.

Tissues work well. They weren’t free to roam in the house for long instead they lived in their brooder on a warm heat mat. And I always put a towel under them when they were on my lap.

did you order the ducks online or picked them up from a farm or rescued them and what types and sorts of food do you use to feed them I lately got a incubator I researched for days be for I got it to learn how to incubate but I am not sure of the most best of all foods that are healthy for my ducklings

Hi +Captro oficyhorn, I rescued my ducklings as they were destined for someones dinner plate. I fed them medicated duckling pellets as many people told me they would get sick and die without the medication. I now think that if you keep their home really clean give them fresh water (with garlic in it) and generally care for ones duckling they don't need the medication. They do need the duckling pellets as normal grains will be too big for the first 3 weeks. You could also make homemade duckling food by cooking and mushing the grains into a paste (ducks love anything wet) but for that I'd go online and get a recipe. I hope this helps Scarlett

How much did they cost and where about did you get them ? I am thinking of getting some ducklings and some chicks (chickens) as young as possible I would use a headlamp and have a set up already in my head. I have had lots of chickens before but they were rescue hens or just started laying hens I am just not sure where to get them from that's all any where in mind around Perth/Dunkeld area in mind! Tips about ducks (from someone who had some as pets): Ducks are messy. Very messy. Like, shit everywhere. If they have a pool, clean it daily. Ducklings love the warm. You can snuggle with them and they’ll fall asleep with you. Don’t mix ducklings and chicks. Ducklings are bigger and move more, plus they grow much faster and I’ve made the mistake of doing this. They can kill the chicks. Ducks are amazingly soft and warm. To keep a duck tame to you, it’s important that you handle them gently each day. If you stop for a while they’ll go back to not trusting you as much. Ducks are GREAT for pest control! They love slugs a lot, too!

yes you can. but like babies you’ll want to be really careful and keep the water cool. Best is to let them bath themselves.

Hi +T R3KT, that depends on you. I recommend going to a small animal show in your area and looking around. Some breads lay more eggs than others, some are aggressive, some do well is heat and others are better in cooler temperatures. Be sure to ask lots of questions and see how big they get when they are full grown. Scarlett

Just be nice and kind, feed them, be quiet, let them get use to you try not to startle them or scare them. Ducklings love to cuddle.

Yep, Most farm ducks want to feel the bottom of the pond as they swim. So no more than a few inches of water until there older and know its safe.
