My household humidity in the winter is 10-12%. Freaking miserable for everyone. Even with foil over the mesh and using Reptisoil and sphagnum moss covered with Reptibark and misting everything in the morning I still can’t keep it consistently at 50%. :(

I have boas, blood pythons, ball pythons, water dragons, and a box turtle. Fortunately I'm able to use a humidifier in my room as well as some space heaters and it keeps my room at about a 78 degree ambient and the humidity stays around 50/60%. You can only really do this if you have species that have the same or similar requirements as one another but if you have the option to do so it's much cheaper and easier than anything else I've found. Obviously I keep my water dragon in the high 80's for humidity percentage but just being able to boost my room from 20/30% to 60 has helped so much. It's not only the heat that drys enclosures out it's the surrounding air. Plus it's a million times easier to maintain my room conditions for all of my animals vs spraying my turtle and dragon each 3 times a day. It's also allowed me to switch over to food grade safe butcher or Kraft paper that would be in a breeder style set up so maintenance is so much easier. You can only do that though if your able to maintain the room conditions since you can't really mist paper too heavily. Also another good trick for humidity that I do with all of my snakes as well as my turtle is using plastic tubs. Do some research. It took me forever to understand it but once you fully grasp the concept of what helps create humidity and what makes it dry up, it won't be an issue.

I have a corn snake and the hygrometer shows that it's on 30-40% of humidity and I use aspen and I don't want to spray it or else it will mold is there a way to bring it up

You can spray the decor and fake plants in the enclosure instead

So if I live in humid Houston, how should I deal with this problem. Right now it's 10:45am the lid on the terrarium is off, my house is at 70 degress and the hydrometer is reading 72!! What should I do because this is a problem!

How do you lower the humidity in a tank? Where I live it’s at 90% humidity outside and I got it down once but then it shot back up and I can’t get it to go back down I need to get it to 30%-40%. Any ideas?

Get a dehumidifier
@chasadilla1827 Жыл бұрын
I'd recommend using a substrate that doesn't hold moisture for whatever animal you have, things like coconut fiber, bark, cocohusk etc is gonna hold on to moisture and raise that humidity. Sand is a good way to keep low humidity but you have to be careful with it depending on the animal you have, if you go that route I'd recommend impacted Clay sand as it avoids accidental consumption by your buddy that could cause impaction. another tip would be to place dehumidifiers near the area of the tank to lower the humidity in the room which should allow you more control over your tanks specific humidity levels.

Is 60 percent humidity good for bp?
@FitGuyAZ5773 ай бұрын
50%-85% is the acceptable range with 70%-85% being optimal when animal is in shed. I prefer over 60% as my minimum normal humidity though personally.
