I used to do campanology. A friend in our tower (a ring of 8) went on a trip and rang Emmanuel. I heard about it at 298 times.

If they ring it up tied, how do they untie it afterwards? They have to ring it down un tie it and ring it up again to do it safely

They untie it from the wheel spokes and slowly put the clapper on the right side of the bell.

Interesting how it has a metal shafted clapper. I would've expected it to have a wooden shafted one.

They told me, they did put a wooden-shafted clapper in, but when it struck, it made it a lot quieter??! And also made it even harder to stand first time, and it is already hard enough!

Interesting. The entire point of the shaft being made from wood is to move the centre of mass closer to the ball of the clapper, making the clapper hit the bell easier, and potentially a bit harder. Strange how it made it quieter.

@@tuatara77 I Know. Even I found it strange and hard to work out how. All I can think of is it makes the overall weight of the clapper lighter, so less force behind it as it rotates round.

I can't believe someone hasn't used a drone in the belfry. It is beyond massive. Pity the acoustics are horrible. I would love to hear them with the tower acoustics sorted.

Recording the bells and flying a drone around would be awesome! You’d get some good angles there!
