Joe I’ve been a Mercedes’ believer since my first one it saved my life and I’ll never forget it so SL’s have been my car of choice for many many years however I can’t believe they went back to a cloth top here now I’m definitely not a fan of them going backwards here but I love the brand ❤❤❤❤ great job with this video as well as usual your my favorite in this business and Steven also did an excellent job with the camera today as well that car is still and always will be a 2 seater in my eyes but there getting close to out pricing them selves here in my opinion. I’m liking the 2023 Prius pricing much much better here now

There is also a physical button at bottom of LCD to operate the roof :). Nice review and exhaust sound came out great and realistic in the video . I have a 991.1 4s naturally aspirated cab so it sounds great and PDK shifts super fast once engine reaches operating temps . The 911 is phenomenal on local roads and bends, very sporty but tiresome on long journeys and highways . I drove the new SL 55 . The SL interior and tech is much nicer , stylish and comfier than even the new 992 . I think the SL is a better road car and 911 a better track car .

So...I am fortunate enough to own both the new SL 63 AMG and an older Porsche Turbo 911. I absolutely love Porsche and also have a Taycan Turbo which I will never part with. However, the SL 63 AMG is NOT more nimble that a Turbo, or any other Porsche. That having been said, at this stage of my life, its the SL 63 that is the car I want to drive. Both of these cars have handling, acceleration and precision which far exceeds the upper limits of what is sanely possible on American roads. So, for me, it is the comfort and related GT qualities which are paramount, and this is where the SL 63 outshines the Porsche. The MB is the superior cruiser - full stop. Panache is rather subjective - ride quality is not. MB SL 63 has both. And the car is as quiet with a soft top (if not quieter) than my hardtop Turbo 911. The soft top is that well engineered. If I was a younger man who still went to the track (Monticello mostly), it would be the Porsche all day long. But this new SL is special, not perfect, but special. It threads the needle of GT and supercar. It doesn't dominate either class, but blends these qualities perfectly. So, I would recommend the SL 63 over the Porsche for those who want great capabilities while cruising while keeping your chiropractor visits to a minimum.

Having a huge infotainment screen in a sports car makes no sense to me. In addition, digital speedometers won’t age well (but I get it). The top is also a bit over-engineered with those mechanical flap covers but the body is well designed.

Agreed. The SL and GT are exquisitely designed (except for that huge infotainment screen on the SL), but the lack of a manual is a deal killer for me, as well. A manual AMG GT would skyrocket in the resale market…what a missed opportunity.

I'm not as militant as I use to be in defense of manual transmissions. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer them, but everyone has their own preferences on this. I just purchased a 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT, my very first CVT and my first non-manual in a very long time, and I have to admit, it's not bad at all. Subaru designed their CVT to feel more like a torque converter automatic and with the 2.4 turbo it's downright quick. I still own a manual vehicle and I always will, but I totally get that some people just aren't into shifting gears or they may be less into it as they get older and want a more relaxed commute. To each their own.

Considering how long the pervious gen SL was a luxury cruiser and less a Sport Cruiser I'm not sure it can make the comeback it wants especially against the Porsche 992. The good news is Joe wouldn't even fit in the back seat of a 911 ragtop 🤣🤣🤣. The bad news is that 911 Turbo S ragtop will beat even the SL65 off the line, albeit cost you close to 100 grand more depending on how nuts you go with Porsche's gazillion options. The trouble is Mercedes will never make an AMG GT black series ragtop - the demand for it just isn't there. This is the car for the grandpa wearing the black leather jacket still banging the grannies and looking to upgrade his Mercury Marauder😎
