Is the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali the ULTIMATE luxury midsize TRUCK?

The midsize truck segment is highly competitive. GMC has decided to to create the Canyon Denali to fill the void for a luxury midsize truck. Under the hood is the 3.6L V6 that produces 308 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic. On the outside you will get a ton of chrome, unique wheels, and badging. On the inside GMC has tweaked the interior for that luxury feel. Is the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali the ultimate luxury midsize truck?

I'm looking for a truck and find the current Sierra/Silverado just too big and bulky for everyday driving but price wise, there's not much difference between the Canyon and the Sierra/Silverado. Push button start was pretty standard after electric start became standard until the early 40's when the key with the momentary start location.

Nice video but for a truck that has towing capacity you should add some live towing. Would be great to see how well it can pull a 5000-6000 lb boat out of a fairly steep boat ramp since we have a lot of water and boaters around Palm Harbor.

I have driven The Nissan Frontier and the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Tacoma. This Canyon and its sister Colorado are much better overall than all those others. The ride is smoother and quieter than the others. The acceleration and hauling are tops compared to the others. It is not contested really. Canyon/Colorado are the class of this group.

I am so glad that you like this one. The first is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine, second is a 3.6-liter V6 gas engine, and third is the 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.

Bed lighting is dealer installed option. Get 'em to throw that in w/ negotiations. Air dam removal is first mod. Seats broke in for my comfort level. I'm happy w/ my SLT Duramax, digging that Denali grille tho.

Hope they fixed the drivetrain. I have a 2016 non Denali. Transmission clunks non stop (torque converter issue) and at 75-80mph hold on tight. Truck vibrates like crazy. Bulletins say bent rear axles.

No they still use 8-speed and there is not a complete fix for that even the new fluid does not always work it's best just to avoid this or any vehicle with a 8 speed. Basically avoid any in house made GM transmission. The co-produced 10 speed is better

For a Denali it should have dual climate control and push button start. I see a lot of Colorado’s and of course Tacoma’s, but not the Canyon and I’ve not seen ANY new Rangers. I think people just go for the F150. Ram needs to bring the Dakota back with the beautiful interior of the Ram. Good job as usual Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Nice review. Nice truck but GMC putting the Denali trim on that is a bit of a stretch. Should not have any window that is manual and the physical key looks bad. It’s not even part of the fob.

I own a 2019 Canyon Denali. I paid 34.5k for it new and while I agree it’s missing some traditional luxuries of other model Denali trims, it’s also substantially less in cost than say a 1500 Denali that starts at 60k+. I own one... so I’m a little biased. But if you get one for the right price I think they’re definitely worth it!

I completely agree that the V6 is the best choice. The 4 cylinder Duramax is actually made by a Fiat subsidiary company and many owners are already having a lot of issues with it and the 6 cylinder Duramax is the same deal and I’ll bet it will have many of the same issues.

For 40k its really good, u really cant complain and compare to a nearly 70k sierra denali they are way different, and to be honest most people dont even have the right to complain since they barely make a little bit more than what that truck costs per year

"Seats are a little firm"??? You're being VERY generous. Colorado or Canyon, base trim or top level Denali, those seats are almost as comfortable as a set of high school bleachers. GM just announced that they are investing 1.5 billion dollars in these trucks. Hopefully a few million will be going towards buying seat cushions.

I see a lot of people whining about the no push to start button on the truck.. I have a Dodge Charger that has a push to start button an I have a Mazda 6 l that has a ignition switch on the steering column either way it doesn't bother me.. hell I miss the shifter being on the steering column😂🤣 but I guess that's just me liking an old-school style trucks

Its the most luxurious midsize you can get with a diesel, but far from the most luxurious. That title goes to the ridgeline, although if Ram ever launches a Dakota, they will obliterate everyone. Anyways the GM midsize trucks are best left to the volume and offroad models Edit: I forgot to mention this truck is on a platform released in 2012, so a lot of its function is tied to it. It also was only built with volume and work models in mind, gmc made a Denali out of a work truck which is why a lot of features are awkwardly missing, such as dual climate and sun roofs. The Chevy Colorado is a favorite amongst fleets, my local power company uses Colorado's for all their non HD fleet vehicles

You're dreaming fella if you think that Dodge is going to put a nice Center stack like they do on their full size on a Dakota. They will not cannibalize their full size trucks like that . There is a reason why Oems don't make their midsize as good as their full size. And that's because they want you to buy the full size with the fatter margins.

@@HiPlains1 maybe not the 12 inch, but even the 8.4 with the quality of the ram 1500 with the 3.6 and the ecodiesel would make for a great little truck. They can also save the 4 corner air suspension, hemi, and other half ton mechanical features for the half ton.

All of the gmc canyons and Chevy Colorados have the same cheap interior. It’s sad to see, you’d think the Denali would at least have some nice leather and dual climate control, better infotainment, a/c vents in the back seat and both seats full electric. Why pay more for the Denali when you get the same disappointing lack of luxury?
