VW is about 25 years late on the remake of VW Micro Bus. I remember getting a brochure in the 2000’s about the VW Microbus that I waited for which never went into production. Similar to the Duke Nuke ‘em Remake. They will run this for couple of years and when it does not sell, they will stop making them. $65K is not cheap for a novelty item.
@cgrist700012 күн бұрын
This is literally my exact thoughts. I completely misses the target of what the original bus did stood for not to mention the people who have nostalgic feelings about the bus or past the point of caring to age.
8:38 a friend and i have been discussing the range and battery size issue, and our best educated guess as to why it doesn't have a bigger battery and better range is the weight limit on a standard EU driver's license. even with out the battery, the IDBuzz is a heavy beast of a vehicle.. with the battery.. it only leaves 500kg available for people and cargo. on a van that seats up to 7 people! Tell me this was designed for the European market without telling me it was designed for the Euro market! lol There are proposals to increase the weight limits on the Class B license in the EU precisely to enable wider adoption of heavier EV's. VW would have to build a special North America-only model with more batteries (if there's even space for them) and modify the suspension accordingly if they wanted to have longer range for the US market. It will likely take another leap forward in battery chemistry, weight, and energy density before we see any real improvement to this

Volkswagen, this is an epic fail. At 60k (not including dealer markup) this is going to be a "fleet vehicle" for Amazon, UPS, and Fed Ex. Yes, there will be a few suburban, Starbucks yuppies who will buy it, but I see taxi cab in the future of this vehicle.
