I've been here. It is awe inspiring. I'll never forget the monk who gave us the tour. I found the Jain philosophy so interesting. The sculpture is intricate and it is all in prestine state. One of the persons in this video says Ranakpur is "a little jewel in the forest". I'd say it's a treasure. My favorite is the carved ceiling featured on 9:03 . Neither photographs nor video do it justice. If it is within your power, go. This is a bucket list kind of place.

British rule Historians estimate that between 30,000 and 60,000 Hindu temples were destroyed during British rule. These acts were often motivated by a desire to weaken Indian culture and suppress religious practices. Muslim rule Hindutva ideologues estimate that 60,000 temples were demolished under Muslim rule in India. However, some say that the precise number of temples desecrated can never be known. Mughal rule Former Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa claimed that the Mughals destroyed 36,000 temples during their reign

In reality Hindus were not supposed to make temple . Vedic hymns Hindus use to do yagyas only. Temple building traditions were started by Sharmanas. Let me give you all some facts that you might not hear at all anywhere else. This temple was initially taken care by Anandji Kalyanji pedhi which is the prime management trust of Jain community(ownership and management) Now this has been taken under by the government under the forest act and it’s taken away from the Jain community. The pujaris are not Jain’s. These people are very rich and influential and they don’t want the temple to go back to the Jain community. The Jain community is fighting hard to get back this temple but the government is not cooperating and there is a full fledged plan to make it tourist spot, hampering the sanctity of Jain temples. So many rituals cannot be carried in this temple because the Jain community don’t have the permission to do so. Multiple instances of violences have taken place when the Jain community has fought for it’s rights, this is sad because Jain community is a minority and we do not have a voice and people don’t care about us much eventhough our contribution to the country is highest. Let this sink in. Do some research yourself and figure out how much Jain community is suffering as a minority. Not only this but almost all important pilgrimage centers are in attack specifically by government and by some hindu groups. BJP is the mastermind here.
