I can feel the pain in his voice. He probably longed to go back to his village in India and that never happened. My dad's family migrated to India from East Pakistan/Bangladesh in 1947 when Pakistan was created. To this day, he remembers how many lakes/rivers were there in his village. He was never able to visit his villagea

My folks on my dad's side came from Azamgarh in UP (United Provinces then) to work in a sugar plantation in Trinidad and spoke Bhojpuri, as did most of the others. My dad said they had contacts with relatives back in the old country, but after WWII and Partition, they lost touch. Very few people in Trinidad can speak Bhojpuri, but still create songs in the language even though most folks don't understand a word of it. I've never been to India myself but some of my siblings and nieces have.

Basti is near Gorakhpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The language in that part of India is bhojpuri. You may refer to it as "hindustani". I have no links to the carribbean but my parents were from that region of India and I live in the UK. All the indians in UK either speak punjabi, gujarati, or hindi. I only heard anyone speak this language back in india and In Netherlands!

Hi Biggurs. Glad to hear you speak Bhojpuri. Bhojpuri is primarily spoken in Indian state of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. These states are still fighting with poverty, illiteracy; are slightly least developed (despite being densely populated) comparing to other Indian states Maharashtra, Gujrat and Punjab. There are lots of people from Bhojpuri speaking states based all across the globe (including UK I am sure). Bcoz of the discrimination and other reason many don't prefer speaking in Bhojpuri. People speaking in Bhojpuri in public are considered less educated, rustic and people hailing from backward state & so on by so called elite class punjabis and those who got raised in cities. Sorry about the rants so if you get to meet people from above mentioned states settled in UK, you may find them speaking in Bhojpuri. Tc...

Do the people of Surinam want to visit India, especially Ayodhya, Varansi, Mathura etc. And if so what problem they are facing in visiting India.

maybe the cost is an obstacle for them to visit thier forefather's village due to long distance from suriname to india and there is no direct flight.
