We use Pandit as a prefix before the name of Hariprasad Chaurasia or Shiv Kumar Sharma or other stalwarts of classical music and Ustad for Muslim vocalists/musicians. Its a kind of reverence that people should always convey. Otherwise there'd be no difference between them and with the other conventional singers. A musician has to earn this honour with severe process of training, learning, practice, and then giving tests with impeccable skill in front of the prominent musicians/singers. Often people with 20-25 years of such background fail to achieve such honour. So, I would urge you- it would be very kind of you if you use Pandit or Ustad before writing or saying their name. Just like Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma or Ustd Ali Akbar Khan.
