Just tried this today and the results were beyond my expectations. On damp hair, I used two Creme of Nature Argan Oil products which were leave-in conditioner spray and intensive conditioning treatment. I also used Eco Styler with Olive Oil and Softsheen Jam for my edges. So many compliments on my lovely curls with this method!

Wow we have the same hair! I've yet to try this method bc being a dude I usually just soak my hair in warm water then apply conditioner, rinse with ice cold water, dry naturally. This achieves a similar effect although not as defined as this method shown. I'm gonna look so much hotter now! Muchas gracias! :)))))))))))))))))

I have never had such defined curls before ever! Thank you for specific on water based products and being detailed in how to do the method. I have such a hard time finding products after I wash my hair because they are usually wayyy too heavy for my hair. I was nervous on using 2 products after washing and deep conditioning but I had excellent results! My curl pattern is similar and I used as my leave in conditioner Mielle white peony and the same Shea moisture mousse. Changed my entire hair game!

You have beautiful hair. I have naturally curly hair. Although over the past 2 years my curl has gone away. Right now my curl pattern is really undefined its all types of curls you mentioned in another video and I have some that are curly at the root and then straight at the bottom. I never searched how to take good care of curly hair and recently decided that I would cut my hair in order to make it easier to straighten because I was so tired of my half curly have straight somewhat wavy unmanageable hair. Well, that was until I found your videos. I'm going to start the CG method soon once I can get my hands on some products. I'm so excited to get my curls back! Thank you much for your effort in making these awesome informative videos. Ive already watched a few of your videos and you made me find my love for my curly hair again. I cant wait to get my hair back! No more straightening for me!!

I love this method of syling! It takes me longer than 10 mins, but its well worth it. One difference, once I am done with all my hair, I scrunch up the ends. I found that if I don't do this the ends sort of straighten out.

I've used a modified raking technique sometimes. I do lots of scrunching after instead of skating. Raking gives me a lot more volume, but can break up my curls into flyaway bits sometimes.
@RisasRizos10 жыл бұрын
I noticed that when I first tried this method but I find that smoothing the hair with enough product before shaking helps tame the fly aways.
@ninammalone9 жыл бұрын
I use to do a similar method when I was younger and before I started straightening my hair. But, the only difference is I had alcohol based products along with raking in the product but, not shaking. So, I ended up with hard sticky hair and no volume. So, since I don't straighten my hair half as much as I use to I saw CurlyPenny do this method and thought that might work for my hair. I have 3b/3c thin hair. I just parted my hair in the middle and started raking SheaMoistures Jamaican Black Castor Oil leave in conditioner along with a little bit of Kinky Curly gel{very little} and my hair looked great!!

Hi! Interested in your comment because I’m a gal who cannot figure her hair out! I say you listed a hair/curl type? What on earth is that? All I know is all the curl videos I watch NONE of these women have my texture! Also I have twice if not three times as much hair as the lady in this video. I like her method and have used it but I have like 6 sections with the amount of my hair! It takes so much product and so much drying time!

Absolutely! I have your same hair type and this has been my go to method for a long time. I use conditioner as my leave in (herbal essences), and instead of mousse I use gel (ampro or eco styler-pink). I go back over it all when I'm done with argan oil to soften/hydrate my curls. Takes me about an hour but worth it lol

Love the rake and shake method (I use Ouidad's products as of right now l, but am looking for "healthier" products that might work just as well). The only part I have trouble with is the top front section. I usually part my hair to the side and then section off to rake and shake. But when I pineapple my hair at night, the next morning the side part can be messed up and the finished look doesn't look very polished and I get frustrated and end up putting my hair in a bun (which I hate doing). Any advice on preserving the finished look or refreshing it would be appreciated. :)

Do I have to use the conditioner? I have kink u knot today and it leaves me with a residue feel. So I tried this method in the shoawer with just kinky curl gel and my hair looked great just wondering if the moisturizing step is needed. What would u suggest for getting my top more curly? I feel like, although I have fine 3a/b curls, the longer it is,the more weighed down it looks unless I get short layers. Which I don't want to cut my hair right now
@RisasRizos9 жыл бұрын
Claudia Lacayo Hi Claudia! You don't really have to use one. use whatever feels best for your hair type. Layers would definitely help but if a cut isn't an option at the moment it might be the products that you are using that is weighing your curls down.

What do you recommend for those who want more curl pattern? I have 2c curls and I would love to have curler hair!!
@RisasRizos10 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for more of a curl pattern you might want to try the finger coiling method. The rake and shake is more of a defined natural pattern so you won't really achieve curlier curls. However with the finger coiling method, you're manipulating the hair to curl a certain way. I have a video on this method in my hair playlist!
@graceandpurls10 жыл бұрын
thank you! I think I remember watching that method. Ill have to try it tonight! What do you recommend for those who have to shower at night and don't want to diffuse? How should i sleep with wet hair?
@RisasRizos10 жыл бұрын
Grace A I don't recommend sleeping with wet hair. Usually when I'm stuck in this situation I keep my hair in a tshirt until it's time for bed, and even then scrunching as much of excess water out as possible with a tshirt and I style in the morning.
