Indeed something I'd never heard of until now! The place looks so traditional and incredible. I want to go there some day.

I kind of want to hear the full story of the lowborn man and his haughty wife, from the snippets shown here I could see where the humor comes from.

Interesting concept, but I don't picture western audiences grasping it. They just want a laugh; they don't take comedy seriously enough to make the effort in seeing how it is distinct from the western stand-up comedy tradition. To western audiences, it will just be someone in a kimono sitting and performing a stand up comedy routine (no pun intended) Western audiences just want to be entertained- they don't want to be asked to have the paintence to recognize cultural distinctions. Perhaps there is an interesting way to expand on this tradition to make it accessible to western audiences? You will note the film "the nutty professor" where comedian Eddie Murphy plays multiple characters in Dialogue with each other

Well, apparently Rakugo in English is successful in countries other than Japan, so maybe a dedicated minority would enjoy it. I would, as a westerner. Anyway, if it were changed overmuch, it wouldn't be Rakugo, it would be a half Rakugo mix.

This doesn't change the fact nothing she said was funny.

i mean, i feel like it's more an older thing you'd hear on the radio if anything, at least in the UK, but they were definitely funny; every country has its own sense of humour, though, so rakugo might not be for all of them

As a westerner who hates, I mean HATES stand-up comedy: I fell in love with rakugo specifically because there is more depth put into the characters compared to stand-ups. Not to mention that the part of the charm of rakugo is how the same story can be retold in completely different ways depending on the performer.
