In the mid nineties I worked security at a Halfords and Friday was fish and chip day so a member of staff would go to the chippy on a bike used solely for that purpose , the bike I soon discovered was a mint condition rally Grifter , it was pristine and even the foam seat was fully intact , I was utterly amazed it was like looking at a time capsule , as a kid it was the must have kids bike and we treated them rough so god only knows where they found it , it was pristine like it had just been taken for its first ride Christmas morning .

Great story, thanks for sharing. Friday has always been fish and chips day.. mid nineties fish and chips were "cheap dinners", 90P I remember it used to cost for large jumbo sausages and large chips!!. What happened to the grifter, do you remember?

@@dealermike1331 I have no idea as I was only there for a short while covering absence but I often wonder what happened to it , I was about thirty and most of the staff were younger so didn’t know or care about it being a grifter but it held a special place in my childhood as I went everywhere on mine .

Hello mate. Everything has a price and everything is for sale. Makes sense, free up space, make a profit, very few things 'are for keeps'.. I'll sell any of my choppers for a reasonable bid. Is the new owner pleased ?.

@@dealermike1331 yes he is over the moon 🎑 and that sale led to another one maybe he seems very keen, deal done price agreed but we will see. Cheers 🍻

Is this the one where you had to straighten out the rear? I've lost track after your month off. 😁

It was a bad bike, I had a go on my friends Mk1 Grifter, I rode it over a curb and the forks bent, he still hasn't forgiven me and that was back in 1979! 🤦♂

I got given one when I was about 5 (way too small to ride it) so my poor mum had to push me around the village on it, I think I also made her carry it up the stairs so I could sleep with it in my room once. Two things stand out, I was a terrible child and my mum was bloody strong!

That is a cracking memory you have shared.. lovely story. Mums have to be strong, pushchairs, buggies, shopping bags... Built like brick **** houses back in the day. Lovely story. Cheers 😃

Some really lovely memories coming out regarding the MK1 grifter. Did you ever manage to buy a grifter later in life ?
