Agree this season had everything. Massive variety, drama and was very unpredictable and loads of manufactures sometimes with 4 cars in a rally. Was a shame I didn't watch the season live in person as was too young to see it but what a season, it just seemed that no one wanted to win it as Burns scored only 44 points to win it and even in the old points format that is very low score but that shows how close and unpredictable the season was. After 2008 I didn't watch the WRC at all really until the new cars in 2017 and am starting to love it again.

@@AmanAli-dc1sy Yes, between 2009 and 2016, this was dark times for WRC, as many teams fighting for the win as in DTM. Also if Rovanpera had Gronholm speed, he could have won the 2001 championship.

@@drybones7475 yeah agree with 100% while Rovempera was consistent and actually if he did the full season he might have been closer he didn't have the speed of Gronholm and despite Gronholm having an awful season think he only finished 5 times he was still only 8 points? Or something behind Burns in the end.
@drybones74754 жыл бұрын
@@AmanAli-dc1sy Yes, Gronholm only scored 4 times and lost by 8 points. Rovanpera also lost the championship by 8 points. 2 rounds before the end, he was 13 points behind Makinen and McRae, and 7 points behind Burns. He also did not participate in 2 rounds.

Great memories! 2001 was my first season watching, and I still remember this rally better than probably any other in the last 20 seasons. I love the emotions, the personality of the drivers, the drama from mistakes to mechanical issues , the brands present, etc. I remember watching this and thinking how could you not love WRC? It was just so unpredictable before the "Sebastians' era." Granted, the last two seasons have been much more interesting. Thanks for sharing, and glad it came up in my KZbin suggestions. You should watch him in 2003. He led the championsip all the way up to round 12 having not even won a rally just stacking up podiums. He probably would have won had not been for his medical problems. His performance at the end of the season deteriorated because of it and was forced to miss out the last 2 events. But on the rally sheets and publications the version number was always there.
