The last of the 7s with a round enamel badge on the front had the double bulge bonnets.

Pond in the TR7 V8 even won the Manx twice and Ypres twice. Interestingly the first TR7 in rallying were 4 cylinder and white. The red colour came with the V8.

It wasn't just in The Avengers. In more recent times, it was featured regularly in The Detectorists 😂👍

a TR7 V8 is called............ wait for it...............a TR8! The car was designed for a V8 from the beginning and a well sorted TR8 is an absolute joy to drive. Was it meant for rallying? Park a TR7/8 next to a Lancia Stratos - look familiar?

The TR8 though was a US market cabriolet. The rally car was indeed called the TR7 V8. Funny enough the first TR7 V8 rally cars were even converted from a badge of the still born TR7 Sprint.

@@chrisbiewer-rallye-info yes, Chris, I was being a bit of a smart ass but yeah, the fact that BL deprived the english of one of the great Triumphs was surprising to us Americans. I owned a 1980 Aztec Gold TR8 from new and they are quite the sublime little terrors. Comfy, roomy, agile, a fabulous torquey 3.5 V8, wonderful steering and the most marvelously compliant ride. With the top down on a sunny day they are wonderful cars - the best car all around that I've ever owned. They are just now being recognized for what they are.

@@rustybearden1800 I also think one of the best sounding cars to the day.

How refreshing to hear 2 people loving the TR7. So many people still ride the 'build quality' and 'TR7 killed the British car' etc etc. All 70's British cars unfortunately had issues but I love my TR7. Mines a late one, December 1981, DHC with the same blue interior, I bought it when I was 16 in 1989 and its currently undergoing a full strip down restoration with a V8 addition 😀

@@andybarbet73 Yes I love the TR7. I am missing the 80s Coupés so much these days. But to be honest I now have a family, I do long trips. For function and design one of my absolute favourites is the Rover SD1, best with the 3500 engine. Nowadays I even feel wierd, but may the by now far right wing Gretas and her followers hate me, before I fork out 50.000Euros for an utterly boring VW ID3, I'd rather give those 50.000 to a completely restored Rover SD1 and actually enjoy my life!

How does it go against your brain as being a great rallye car? Have you ever seen the world beating Lancia Stratos wedge? It may not have been a rear mounted mid-engine like the Lancia, but there’s a case that it was a near mid-front engine. Btw, for my final year of high school and first year of college I drove a bright blue 1980 Triumph TR7 fixed roof. The trip across the US to university in Arizona didn’t kill my little TR7, but me hammering AZ mountain roads for two semesters, then finishing the year with a 3,000 mile trip home in early summer heat, had her waving the white flag. Mercifully, I traded for a 1980 Toyota Corolla SR5 2 door hatch, which turned out to be a much more suited companion for cross country miles and AZ mountain duty. My little tired TR7 relieved going to an older couple happy to have her as a sexy weekend runabout.🍺
