That’s how I did it on my gti, I been doing that for about 5 years now, in vag cars you don’t need to go in to the actual module, it’s free to do if you got so scan tool that reads air bag

I hit a wood utility pole going very very fast in my alltrack and the Pole broke off. That’s some hardened steel right there. It did bend but stood in one piece

I hope they have a better maintenance strategy than just sending you out in an Alltrack to remove old utility poles :-D

Just a FYI on the Audi/Volkswagen vehicles you don’t need to remove the airbag module just clear them with any scanner that reads airbag codes or use vagcom that does the trick. :)

Historically that’s not the case. Cars that have been in accidents require repacking the airbag module. Are you aware of changes to this on MK7 models?

Yes I am, I just did it on a 2017 vw gti just plugged in vagcom and cleared the codes didn’t need to pull the module, also did a 2018 vw gti fee months back

You don’t need to take the air bag module out, all you do is erase the crash data , you can use obd11

If you're gonna protect the front end with a bumper bar, you're gonna have to protect the fogs with the grill simply on principal. And also because +5 hp.

I agree. Bull bar = temptation to ram something out of principle is undeniable. Fog lights will break regardless.

Leave those grilles off & put some clear X-Pel film on there for protection. You need driving lights not fog lights. Actually you need both. Nice work....

I like this makeover, but I have a question that I’ve sent before but never answered. My wife’s MK7 Alltrack doesn’t always downshift to first gear when stopping or slowing down to almost stopped! Have you noticed this problem with your MK7 ? The dealer said their Tech drove another new one like ours and it acted the same . Is anyone having or had this problem ?

I prefer the no-grill look. With the grills looks too “Trucky” to me. Without the grills looks more Rally Car. And yes, the car needs a bumper cover badly. Please don’t leave it this way. It looks terrible. That said, I was surprised how good the fabbed bull bar looks. Get a new cover and something more precise than a crosscut handsaw, and you’re on the way to a pretty amazing transformation.

Really cool project but bear in mind that a real 4x4 requires offroad tyres and that the Haldex is unlikely to cope with all terrain conditions for any amount of time before grinding itself to pieces...
