Donaldson Co. makes about 80 to 90% of the filters in the US market. They make the Fram Puraltor and others, but not the Wix. So it is vary easy to rebrand filters. You maybe asking yourself how I would know this, well I was in their plant a few years back and the manager had all the filters that they made on a shelf behind his desk. Now they have to meet the specs the customer wants so they will vary.

When replacing the original CAT fuel filter with a larger and heavier aftermarket filter like the 1R-0749, there are a few considerations regarding the mounting brackets and the overall stability due to increased weight and vibration: 1. **Mounting Brackets:** The original mounting brackets designed for the smaller and lighter filters may not be sufficient for the heavier 1R-0749 filter. It’s essential to ensure that the brackets used can handle the increased weight and vibration. Upgrading to stronger or reinforced brackets is advisable. 2. **Vibration:** The larger and heavier filter can cause more vibration. If the filter is mounted using only two bolts instead of four, this could lead to increased stress on the mounting points and potential failure over time. Ensuring that the mounting hardware is secure and designed to accommodate the increased load is crucial. 3. **Compatibility:** The use of an adapter or spacer may be necessary to properly fit the new filter onto the existing mount. This ensures that there is adequate clearance and that the filter is securely attached. To address these issues,

Stripped out the plastic lug for the water separator in the rear about 150k miles ago, and now the front one is starting to get stripped too. Been looking at Black Market Performance’s CAT fuel filter replacement, anyone have any experience with them?
@mikeb63007 ай бұрын
I recently just eliminated the stock OEM fuel filters on my 2017 Ram with the 6.7 and the reason why I did that is because of the risk of the plastic cap breaking coming off or going on also the o-ring on my OEM cartridge filter goes on the housing instead of the cap. So I did this for ease of replacement. When it’s time to change the fuel filters again I will most likely go to fleetguard filters

Why do you choose Fleetguard?

I’m curious to know what micron rating is used for each filter as in nominal or absolute? Also I’m curious if the smaller the micron rating the quicker the contaminates build up which may lead to other issues? I’m digging that long filter though.✌🏽
@BigDRanch91811 ай бұрын
That is a good question!

@@BigDRanch918 full disclosure I don’t know much about filters themselves only that they filter stuff. I have however read an article about smaller the micron the more it may fill up on contaminants quicker. I think this is where that longer filter might come in handy. As for absolute or nominal I only read that in the article as well and just thought I’d ask. Thanks again!✌🏽

@Knuckledragnation the more efficient a filter is the more debris it will remove, which can lead to the filter plugging faster, but it is important to keep in mind that there is a whole range of available products on the market. It is entirely feasible to change over to a better/premium filter that is more efficient while also having a longer service life. Generally speaking cat filters are designed for heavy duty applications, so they will run a 1R-0749 for 500 hours on engines like a C13 and even if you are catching more debris odds are you will still get plenty of life out of the filter.

Cat 1r-0750 is 2 micron nominal rating with the old SAE standards. Which means they don't filter 99.9% at 2 microns. But they're allowed to claim 2 micron even if it's a 90% or lower. The new ISO standards are much harder to attain. You won't find ISO published specs anywhere including if you reach out to Cat or their distributors directly. Donaldson DBF5814 is the best in the industry right now. With an ISO rated 4 micron at 99.9 percent efficiency. No other company can claim this. Do your research and I'm sure you'll be surprised.

$10 saving over fuel filter change? Let's say it's more, how many times a person has to change all filters in order to actually save money since investing in that CAT system (and how long is that time period)??? How much that cat system anyways? Show me Lab diagnostics or paperwork (I use Blackstone Laboratories in Indiana) and then I'll believe CAT is better. Mopar, CAT or FreightGuard - same thing. Just pick one you like people, your choice. You Sir sound like you are sponsored by CAT or their representative.
@BigDRanch918 Жыл бұрын
It's much more than $10 dollars you are saving after each filter change. Secondly, the cat system only takes about four filter changes to pay for itself. (I am not sponsored by Cat but that would be cool!) The filters are better because of the micron rating... Not sure why a lab would need to confirm that when the manufacture tells you.
@Alero2k4 Жыл бұрын
2019+ the msrp on fuel filters is almost $200, just the filters from a parts store. Doing fuel and oil is almost $300 doing it all yourself. You can shop around and do it cheaper, but the cat system will pay off long before you think it would on these new trucks!
@YouKnowImRight2 Жыл бұрын
@Alero2k4 I just got Mopar fuel filters from Amazon for $85 for my 2020 3500 (with Cummins HO) so what are you talking about? I got Mopar just in case, because of warranty, Fleetguard is cheaper as any other generic brand.
