This is a very shallow discussion. To become a deep discussion, they have to accept this fact -- already in the early 90s, Isaignani Ilayaraja's tamil isai was comprehensively defeated by A. R. Rahman's Islamiya isai. According to Rahman's Islamiya Isai, a human cannot claim ownership of a melody or a tune. The creation of music comes from god. That's why he always said 'Ella pugalum Iraivanukkey'. Hence, A. R. Rahman focused all his energies and efforts in engineering the sound of his music. In Islamiya isai, this is what the composer is supposed to do. The composer should not try to be the original creator of the melody or tune. Instead of pursuing originality, the composer should spend his energy and creativity to explore and experiment with the music, possibly with the participation of other artists and singers. This is the tradition of Sufi music, qawwali and all other genres of Islamiya isai. This is the fundamental precept of Islamiya isai. This approach was much more powerful than the approach of 'ragadevan' Ilayaraja. However, Ilayaraja's music had one advantage. Ilayaraja paid close attention to the story and the song situation described by the director of the movie. As a result, Ilayaraja's songs and BGM music touched the emotional chords of the movie audience. However, influential people like K. Balachander, Mani Ratnam, Bharathiraja, Vairamuthu all ganged up against Ilayaraja and ensured the defeat of his tamil isai. Even though the majority of the audience were fanatical fans of Ilayaraja's music, the influential people of tamil film industry, mentioned above, preferred the loud, pumpy, beat-based, electronic, techno music that can be played in car speakers. They thought that was the future. Hence they repeatedly backed A. R. Rahman, against Ilayaraja's tamil isai, without knowing that in effect they are surrendering tamil isai and ensuring its defeat to Islamiya isai. All this happened 30 years ago. It is quite late to be debating this topic now.
